Need Maillist advice

I am wondering if it is worth buying some of these mailing lists I have seen for sale. I imagine most of them are garbage but if there is someone who deals with a good list would anyone know who I should buy from and what the minimum is I should get and anything I should look out for?

Be careful with this. Since as far back as I could remember people have been trying to sell email lists. If I had a nickel for every time I got a call from someone who wanted to sell me a list of 5 million email address for $1,000 I would be retired!! People selling these lists tend not to be able to tell you where it came from — that is a bad sign. Just be careful with this.
