Ok. So here's the deal. My main laptop keeps deciding the HD is corrupted. Then I manage to fix it since windows diagnosis's are full of shit. Either way, it's getting harder to repair. I backup my servers, but stupidly enough not my laptop. Methinks it's time to start. I'd like to get this shit automatic.

What I'm Looking For (these are just pluses, not required)
  • Automatic scheduling
  • Ability to use FTP
  • Ability to Compress Archives
  • Ability to store archives by date
  • Ability to process 200-300gb/day total from 5 different computers+servers
  • Multiple licenses (I may have to install this on 2 computers at different times)
I'm fine paying whatever it takes if there's some shareware out there that you guys would reccomend.
Compression isn't as necessary as the other ones. I've got a 1tb external to work with, plus a few smaller(120-160gb) scattered HDs I can use if necessary.

Any reccomendations?

Oh yeah. These are for windows servers+computers(I know I know)

I've been really happy with Mozy.com

-They encrypt using your key if you want, so nobody can unencrypt except you.
-Bandwidth limits to your pipes only
-Been using with no problems for about a year

XCMP, which solution did you end up going with? I'm in the market too!

I'm testing out mounting my servers and extraneous computers as a drive on a different computer(that is connected to my external).
Current software testing is Backup Plantinum 4.0. I'll try and remember to post where when I figure out how well it works.

I appreciate the feedback, thank you.

copy+(navigate to your external HD)+paste
then let it cook for a while

seriously though, just write some windows scripts.

I'm actually 'slowly but surely' writing requirements for a really robust replication/backup utility for server/pc admins. The big guys have their tools, the little guys have no tools, this tool is for the middle-tier folks who have 2-10 boxes and need a solution under $5K/year.

Similar to MS/IIS.net's Web Deploy Tool, it will replicate files, IIS metabase/permissions, and filesystem rights to another server or backup.

PowerShell is also another option I considered for building a robust script but haven't had a ton of time to jump in. I'm guessing once I do learn PS, I'll be pissed it didn't do it earlier.

I'm in the same boat. Lately I have been allocating my education time towards other technologies. I've heard good things about PS though.
