Need some Adwords Help

Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I've been in the adwords game... not my choice but circumstances dictate I begin working with Adwords again. Stuff has changed. There's this quality score thingy, and what not. Not for the better that's for sure. Anyway, I need some help. Why else would I be here, right? Here's what I'm wondering...

1) I think the first thing is I need a good guide to Adwords. Anyone have one that's relevant for 2014 that can get me a foundation to get back in the game? Anything at this point
2) Need tips and advice. Even "never do this" style stuff. Do I need to start making up long tail keyword lists? Where do I even start?

Plus adwords are a very big niche as well, like the whole IM game
you can use adwords and create MFA sites, you can use it in conjunction with other ad networks, blackhat sites, brand sites, magazine sites

If you cannot define what exactly you need then you are asking us to write you a book
