Netflix Jumps The Shark

"Our $7.99-per-month plan is for one stream at a time, and later this year, we expect to be able to offer consumers some account options to watch multiple simultaneous streams," Netflix said on the Top Investor Questions page.
o rly? I've had a stream going on my TV and another different stream on my laptop plenty of times.

Notice in my account says rate is going up from ~$16 to ~$20 ... have thought since the beginning that the service is underpriced; as long as the quality stays level or improves I could give a shit about such a trivial cost. My fucking cable costs nearly $200 a month, and they ran me around for literally months before I could talk to a human who could help me look at the plan and adjust it down a bit -- and then the only way I could do it was to trick them, by ordering one of their shit DVRs and then informing the commissioned sales rep I wasn't adding shit until my bill made sense.

One meal for the family at McDonald's = ~$16
One LC wooden train for my kid's train set = $8-$30
One kid's casual outfit, on sale, excluding shoes = $15-$30

In the great scheme of things, paying $20 a month for Netflix is one of the cheaper things a parent can do. As long as they retain that market, I have a feeling Netflix will be ok.

Sorry, I neglected an important contextual point:

One kid's DVD that will be watched daily for a week then forever forgotten: ~$20

If you don't have kids, you have no concept of what a time and hassle and money saver Netflix really is. The whole concept around their DVD model -- get a DVD, keep it until you're bored, send it back and get another one -- is practically designed with the five-to-ten-year-old demograph in mind. Again, as long as they can retain the parent market, they'll do well.

I mostly stream shit on Netflix since my kid is watching the same episodes of Backyardigans over and over and over again. I just cancelled the DVD portion of Netflix.

Redbox ftw

My kids stream power rangers constantly over the Wii.
I pretty much only stream now.

In a year of netflix, I only used their mail service once - it sucked ass.

I've been streaming only, ever since they came up with the streaming only account.

Probably will do this too. It's super rare that I actually get a DVD anyways and there's always itunes and zune for streaming new releases.

been thinking about doing netflix again now that they do streaming. how long does it take to DL a movie on a decent internet connection?

p.s. prices for everything are going up. if you have cash to burn, stock up on EVERYTHING.

lol, I have a 3 yr old and not only was I too damn lazy to put netflix DVDs back in the mail, I am too damn lazy to click on a stream from the website.

so now the 3 yr old knows how to:
-launch the browser
-type "n" into the address bar to auto display the websites
-then clicks on "netflix.com"
-types in "d" in the netflix search bar to autodisplay "dora"
-streams dora all by herself
-clicks on full screen
-when show is done, clicks on next episode

shes been doing that over and over again for the past 6 months

when streaming it is instant on a regular broadband connection. sometimes it may take 20 seconds to dwnload.

the amazing thing about netflix is that you can fast forward in a movie and there is no wait time, its playback is instant. it also remembers your spot if you end your session and comeback a week later to watch that same movie.

Problem is most of the good stuff on netflix is dvd only. Sopranos, entourage, wire, new movies, etc. So it's either pony up an additional $7.99 per month or only have access to half of the good shit.

wow...instant seems pretty good.

i had been doing ps3 network movies...but i guess they lost rights to all major studios because their selection turned to shit.

Netflix pretty much suck balls anyways. Dvd's are so 2001 and just not worth the hassle. Netflix streaming is great if you like watching old shit (which is ok sometimes) I would gladly pay $50 bucks a month to get, any show and any season along with any movie at the push of the button. We need Google to come into the space and force all the production companies to make everything available for a flat monthly fee.

Netflix won't survive much longer imo, I imagine a competitor revolutionizing the industry and netflix getting left behind.

if vudu ever opens up to subscriptions netflix will be done. I'd get a vudu subscription almost instantly even if it was like $20-$40 a month instead of $8...any more than that I'd be debating since I really don't watch that much tv/movies

They signifigantly increased their price if you get DVDs and Streaming service

An extra 5-10 bucks is not significant. Sure it sucks, they have changed the pricing structure twice since I have joined.

I was just talking to a buddy of mine about this very thing. With the rapid pace of internet capable TV's hitting the market and streaming options available, it will end up being a clusterfuck, unless a single one stop shop comes to the plate. Although I highly doubt the one size fits all option will happen, even something close would do for most.
