Should a complete newbie email question go on here or in the Art of Emailing forum?

I want to start mailing newsletters to my wife's business clients. I need some idea of how to start going about it.

Do I use awebber or should I do this through a gmail account?

Is there a site, thread or non WF forum for the complete newbie?
 


Might help if you mention the number of clients you plan on mailing and how often you plan to email them.

My wife has a small business and just uses her gmail account to email her very small list (40-50) people a couple of times a month.

If her list is bigger than 50 or so and smaller than ~50k it would probably be best to go with a service. Awebber is a bit of pain because they have to optin again before they can be emailed but they are cheaper if you do alot of emailing. A better option might be to use constant contact or icontact you shouldn't have to optin your list again but you will pay a CPM for sent emails where as awebber is just a monthly fee based on list size. The best part about using any of these services is that you don't have to worry about whitelisting, just have to design your email and hit send.

If her list is larger or you get a lot of complaints you would probably have to look at using your own server to send mail and worry about all kinds of delivery related issues. Honestly you shouldn't have a problem with any of those services listed above unless her list is bought CoReg etc...
 
Actually if you have your site built in joomla it has a newsletter mailer built in. but there are plenty of emailer programs out there but you dont want on that goes through your hosting company as most of them have limits on the number of emails that can be sent
