New Facebook Fan Pages...

I will head off to Orkut or myspace once they make the timelines as default for personal profile.
And yes, the Facebook page as timelines suck as fuck.. No landing page either...

Shit, my cleints who have paid good money for custom facebook pages are going to be mad bros

yup, lot of clients are going to have to re-order design for a custom cover pic now.

Not allowing a welcome tab is the worst part about it. Talk about a decrease in conversions!

The nerve of FB to actually expect us to provide quality content instead of manipulating there users.

We have clients with all sorts of custom features, one clients site only went live 3 weeks ago, she paid a lot as it does quite a few facy bits, she going to be pissed

you can still have a welcome tab ... you just cant set it as a default landing tab BUT ... you can make a post linking to it and pin it on the timeline
I also noticed that the apps have a big icon which you can set to grab attention.

If you want to promote your page ... you can also link to any app/tab you want ... just tested on one of my pages ...

It's not just about manipulating users man. I did a couple of pages for a few Ron Paul groups that had donation pages and email list sign up page and it looks like they've hidden those features. I'm sure a lot of people are going to be pissed at the lack of functionality. Am I missing something here? It looks like they've altogether taken away the ability to have canvas pages.

It seems geared towards brands, local businesses etc. Basically, they want to get rid of the "Affiliate" "blogger" kinda people and only want real businesses to host pages. Look at those example pages and you will get a fair idea. Its got address, phone numbers listed for business, more like a local page

Im not saying there all bad but there is a shit ton of it on FB. You guys who are coding these for money should be happy this is a great opportunity for after work.

In the beginning, it was sane, and you could, for example, have the "Wall" be the default landing page, but you could insert a widget in the sidebar that had a link to your website.

They changed that, I suppose, to keep people on facebook instead of having them click out to the page owners website.

So, we then all made do with canvas pages. My guess is people are still clicking out to the page owners' websites.

So, now, they'll pretty much shut it down entirely, and you'll have to make the WALL the default page and post your links there....until they shut that down.

This doesn't just suck for IM'ers. Real mom-and-pop places, like restaurants, would like to guide their fans to their websites too, instead of having to replicate everything on the facebook page.

Yeah I mean I don't really understand their logic. I was ready to dump a lot of Ad money into FB, but this really changing my mind. I can't see how this stuff is actually helping and not hurting their bottom line. Seems completely counter intuitive.

The fact is that people RARELY click any of these tabs on the side of the page. I have a page with over 20k fans and the side taps I left up but never messed with only got about 15-20 clicks TOTAL over 2-3 months.

People need to be told what to do, and FB is taking that option away from us.
