Would it be advisable to have a .ly domain for new a new startup? Only fear is Libya might one day knock off all .ly domains registered by international people.

For your thoughts

Kevin Oleary has already stated several times that .ly is worthless but he loves to invest in .hk's

If it's a good name or it makes sense with the .ly extension, I say why not.

I can't see bitly's dot ly domain getting shutdown and they're based out of ny, so I think the risk on that is small. Possible, but small.

If I were you, I wouldn't do it. Read this Geotargetable domains - Webmaster Tools Help

how I know: I 301 a .com to a .es since it was very brandable, I had a -20 accross almost all results.
