I have been thinking about getting into IM for quite some time, but I had a lot on my plate until recently when I got fired from my previous job, and since there is no time better than right now...

I have already gathered quite a load of information from numerous posts on WF, but I still have a few questions. Please consider that I am on a limited budget of roughly 200+(more next week). Should I be getting into split testing offers or just landing pages. When bidding on keywords do I always want to be the highest bidder, or what is the general idea? Other specific things I feel would keep me from making more stupid mistakes than I need to at startup include :
-direct linking or landing pages?
-the time I should test the campaign before letting it go
-the best affiliate network(s) for noobs (if there is such a thing)
-an effective PPC, as I understand g is spitting on affiliates
-possibly a CPA product or service suitable for a beginner

Last but not least I would like to thank you in advance for your time, advices, and everything else you might want to throw at me.

OK so where do you stand in terms of preparation? Are you registrered with affililiate networks? Can you build landing pages? Do you have any skills at all? As i was told when i asked the same question. If you just dive in you are likely to burn your cash! Still interested? Then just copy what someone else is doing until you find your feet.
i am no expert so cant answer ur specific questions.
HTH
p.s. CJ and tradedoubler just accepted me and all i had to do was show them one site i had built. I haven't been accepted by any advertisers yet though.

direct linking or landing pages?
Start out with direct linking to see if it is even with your time to build a lander.

the time I should test the campaign before letting it go
till you get enough clicks.

the best affiliate network(s) for noobs (if there is such a thing)
Well, what you want is the best networks with support. When I first started out Ads4dough was quite helpful. Profit kings media is extremely helpful as well. For someone starting out, I wouldn't bother with the bigger ones since their AM to Publisher ratio is pretty bad; only people pushing volume get attention.

an effective PPC, as I understand g is spitting on affiliates
Work with the big 3. Even google, they're not going to ban if you can't get an offer through. I wouldn't bother with 2nd tier cause the traffic quality usually isn't that good and that gives you bad judgement for campaigns.

possibly a CPA product or service suitable for a beginner
Start out with something that requires the least work for the user. Getting someone to download something is a lot easier than getting them to whip out the plastic to get sum juicy berries. Talk to your affiliate manager - ask them what's performing on what. Just hit it hard.

There you have it.

You understand things enough to execute. Launch your first campaign already man.

Thanks @juntao65. My remaining questions are mostly regarding the keywords. How many should I have, considering my budget.
- could anyone hint me at least a kw bidding strategy as I really could not find anything about this.
- how do I track a direct linking campaign, because as I understand it, Prosper202 is for campaigns that use landing pages.
- should is get my hands on some of those free money coupons? i read somewhere that I really shouldn't, but not sure really

p.s. i'll start with adwords and adcenter, and Ads4dough because with PKM I can't get around Tax ID/VAT (I don't have a firm yet)

Then just copy what someone else is doing until you find your feet.

I'm not going to copy anything just yet.. I wanna learn how to crawl first.. In terms of experience in website creation, not much. This is why I'm using WP and others similar for now. I have been working p/t as an article w for quite some time now, so I guess that goes to my advantage.. other than that it's just passion man.. and this forum that got me interested in IM

prosper202 works for either direct linking or landing pages.
there's no reason for you to not use coupons/vouchers.

also you may want to stick to just one traffic source to start.

OK well, the first thing you need is to be accpted by a network to run ads. I would do some reading up on writng marketing copy. As long as you have passion i'm sure u'll be fine! Carefull you don't burn your cash.

For keywords, it may sound strange, but I bid up more then what I think I will get back. Here is what I mean.

You have an offer that pays $5. The top 3 positions will cost around 20 cents. This means you need to convert 1 out of 25 visitors, or 4%. What I like to do is make sure I get as high as possible so that I can get a test base for the highest position. It may cost me say 40 cents, but that is okay. Get a good baseline on how it converts at that position and scale back slowly, testing each position basically to see how each position does. Why waste money for the #1 position if you can get the same conversion rate for the #5 position and it saves money. Sure, you will get a little less traffic, but as a newbie, that is okay actually. You are saving money, profiting more to invest more and able to stretch your money out longer. Hope that made sense for you.

It does actually.. this is just what I was looking for... some kind of strategy k bidding. thx
