Would they be considered soul food?

Here is some really funny stand-up from Greg Giraldo about American obesity.

if you are obese in america, chances are you are addicted to sugar. put down the big gulp and learn to like water, or at least michelob ultra.

I talked to a fitness trainer today who does a class with obese children. One of her students is a 16 year old boy who had two cardiac surgeries by his fourteenth birthday. He needs to get his wisdom teeth out and they can't operate for fear that it will put him into cardiac arrest.

That's probably due to a congenital disorder. No doubt there's a lot of fat bastards in that age group but that still too young to start needing surgery.

On a related note, I just stumbled on to this book the other day:

Half way through it. It's amazing. Should be required reading for every person in the Western world.

i dunno. young people are getting all kinds of diseases these days that only adults got back in the day. you can pack a lot more abuse into a smaller period of time with todays portions, habits, availability.

if you like that book check out Gary Taubes book. really interesting. my wife is on the paleo diet and she looks better than she ever has and her doctor says she's healthier than ever. she has me convinced to severely limit my carb/sugar intake. but a niggah need a margarita some garlic toast every once and a while.

How very true. Whatever his case may be, it's very sad for him and the entire generation of kids (and adults) who are brainwashed into poisoning their bodies every day with "healthy food" and drugs.

Thanks for the suggestion. As for cutting out carbs and grains, I started doing that incidentally a few weeks ago, even before getting that book. Don't miss them at all. However, I plan on indulging from time to time (e.g. had 2 b-day parties this weekend; ate cake). Even the author recognizes that you can't pass up on vices for the rest of your life. Everything in moderation is the key.

Wow, this shit is not rocket science.

Eat natural foods. Avoid refined foods, especially those that are high in sugar. Eat good fats (nuts, avocados, grass fed meats, coconut milk). Eat good proteins (grass fed beef, free range eggs, wild caught fish). Eat slow digesting carbs (fruits and vegetables, with an emphasis on vegetables). Drink water instead of sugar poison. HOLY FUCKING SHIT YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT.
