Wasn't really sure where to put this but.. lately, as in like last few months, I have not been able to view any adsense ads (except the search ads on google). I had figured it was some shit that come with some Norton antivirus stuff I had installed around then and didn't think twice. But since reading more about arbi and such I want to see the ads and I went through the antivirus thing and didn't see any features that would block adsense. This problem is in both firefox and IE. I have javascript enabled, iframes work, I ran a spyware check and nothing related to ads came up. Other forms of advertising including YPN still show up 100% of the time. Any ideas? I know I can view what ads would appear on sites through those "click on your ads without getting in trouble" sites but I would like to be able to see ads as they actually appear on sites.

mdm - are you having this problem at home as well as in your office? Do me a favor, see if you can see the adsense block at this link:

WickedFire Test

Another member in a different part of the wf forums was complaining about not being able to view adsense ads while at work... I setup this little experiment which changes some of the variables in the javascript code that generates the adsense unit. Let know if the adsense unit comes through...

I'm pretty sure its norton. I had the same shit on my last laptop, couldnt view ads for like 2-3 years lol. I probably could have done something about it but for some reason I didnt.

But I had norton come with the computer, preinstalled. Note to self* always reformat a new computer*

The test pages gives me the
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at pagead2.googlesyndication
error.

I'll do another look through Norton to see if there's anything to turn it off or maybe just get rid of the fucker all together. The weird thing is that Norton says I have limited coverage for web browsing and that ad blocking isn't available unless I cough up more dough.

Weird that the test page is givin you that error. It's working on my side.

You know what's messed up? If Microsoft were to include some sort of option to "Turn Off" or "Hide" contextual AdSense ads in it's browsers, people would be up in arms and there would probably be a huge lawsuite against MS, brought on by Google. But Norton blocks AdSense and nobody cares?

OK, so I nuked norton and its still not showing adsense ads. Anybody else have any ideas? I'll also take any recommendations for free/cheap virus software that doesn't block all the ads/aff links and other gay shit.

Well I finally conquered it. It involved editing some file at windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts and deleting the google entries. I think it came from Spybot Search and Destroy but who knows, at least I can see the ads.
