Very often people ask about normal profit margins for an e-commerce website, or about how to set up their business etc. There is a great way to see how other online companies operate, and that is by looking at public filings by companies that are traded "over the counter". To make a long story short, you can find profit figures, ownership structure, margins and other juicy bits for companies who's only asset is a website.

Take a look here - this organization tracks OTC filings:
OTCBB Symbol Directory and Company Contact Information
So, for example, you can see how much revenue Bingo.com is pulling, and what kinds of expenses it has.

Also, the motherlode is the SEC database, called EDGAR. There will be some overlap between it and the above database. The search page is here:
Search the EDGAR Database

EDGAR is an absolute nightmare to use. I am not going to explain exactly how you can find dotcoms - be creative.

If you are not able to make heads or tails from these statements, and are into bartering/paypaling/collaborating then PM me. I can help.:)

They have to be SEC listed to be on those. That is one of the reasons companies like staying privately held because then you can hide that kind of data.
