The event in a nutshell:

- a man named Glenn walks (aimlessly?) in traffic.
- cops arrive and confront him.
- Glenn puts his hand in his pocket.
- cops discharge firearms, missing him, but hitting 2 female bystanders.
- Glenn is subsequently tazed by the cops, then subdued.
- numerous charges are brought against Glenn. Among them, assault on the bystanders - the women shot by the cops.
- Glenn is found to be unarmed.

Seriously what the fuck is wrong with Americas cops?

Meanwhile in Canada.

Cops == friends with judges == laws favoring cops.

It'd be surprising if cops were held to the same legal standards as regular citizens under this system, and frightening even.. Something would probably be very wrong with the fabric of the universe. Suddenly up is down, left is right and circles are squares.

Initially Mr. Broadnax was arrested on misdemeanor charges of menacing, drug possession and resisting arrest. But the Manhattan district attorney’s office persuaded a grand jury to charge Mr. Broadnax with assault, a felony carrying a maximum sentence of 25 years. Specifically, the nine-count indictment unsealed on Wednesday said Mr. Broadnax “recklessly engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death.”

“The defendant is the one that created the situation that injured innocent bystanders,” said an assistant district attorney, Shannon Lucey."

LOL

Oooh are we playing the "how far removed can we get the blame" game? Let me try.

What if he was on prescription meds? If his physician hadn't prescribed them, he wouldn't have haphazardly wandered into the street and the whole situation would have been avoided. Sue his doctor!

Or maybe it's Levi's fault for putting pockets on their jeans. After all, if he hadn't reached into his pocket, they never would have needed to fire. Sue Levi!

You aren't taking it nearly far enough. I would like Adam & Eve formally brought up on charges. I would say God himself but his name is on the money so good luck with that.

Or they could just try to find a way to twist this into a discussion about how this would never have happened if the wealth was more evenly distributed, guns were outlawed, and teachers received higher salaries.

Gotta love America. Got caught committing a crime? Don't worry, it's always someone else's fault.

Yep this story is fucked up. Saw this one earlier today. The only thing the guy had on him was his wallet. That's what he was reaching for when the cops fired at him.

He was also in traffic because he was mentally ill and thought he was talking to dead family members at the time of the incident. To top it all off, they finally subdued him with a taser. Cause you know, if a taser is an option, emptying a clip or two at an unarmed man in a crowded area should obviously be the first choice.

There was a police shooting a month or two ago where a kid with a toy gun (but no orange cap on it) that looked like an AK was shot and killed by a cop. My brother in-law was home over Thanksgiving and he flew off the handle when we were talking about that case. He's active duty marines and spent more than a year in Afghanistan and Iraq before that. His squad (??) had orders to hold fire until they were fired upon even while in a combat zone. I have no idea if this is common practice or if it's because the "war" was nearing the point where the troops were supposed to be more peacekeeper and less soldier, but I don't see why police shouldn't be held to the same standard. I get that their job can put them at risk of losing their life. I also don't feel sorry for them. They knew what the job entailed when they signed on and can quit at any time.

In other retarded NYC cops news: They recently stopped and detained a man walking down the street with a bag of fucking mints. The cop claimed he had ecstasy. The man was held for 30 hours. It doesn't take 30 hours to determine that mints aren't ecstasy. So tired of fucking cops.

Here's some more fun cop reading: Florida Police Cover for Murderous Officer?.

That piece is long and makes me want to vomit all over my keyboard, but it's damn good investigative journalism and is going to get the author a Pulitzer.

One of the main rules of firearms safety is be sure of your target...and what's behind it. Idiot cops are idiots.

All I heard was fucking NYC pigs, NYC pigs and more NYC pigs.

When around NYC pigs never relax.

First of all, anyone not from NYC should seriously shut the fuck up when critiquing the NYPD. Have your tears not yet dried from when that ass-douche in the Lambo got manhandled by Sgt. Slaphappy?

The NYPD cannot shoot enough people before true justice is meted out. I don't think they have enough bullets.

Anyway, the job of a police force is to serve and protect or some shit like that. And this city is safe for farmers to visit annually and act like dickheads in Times Square - they can get lost and wander off the beaten path as far as they want and not be savagely attacked by locals. Not many major cities can say the same.

Get me outta here!
