NSA analysts deliberately broke rules to spy on Americans, agency reveals | World news | theguardian.com

US intelligence analysts have deliberately broken rules designed to prevent them from spying on Americans, according to an admission by the National Security Agency that undermines fresh insistences from Barack Obama on Friday that all breaches were inadvertent.

A report by the NSA's inspector general is understood to have uncovered a number of examples of analysts choosing to ignore so-called "minimisation procedures" aimed at protecting privacy, according to officials speaking to Bloomberg.

So, when can he be impeached?

So, when can he be impeached?

To what end?

From one helluva smart guy:

As a territorial monopolist of ultimate decision making and law enforcement, the state is not just like any other monopoly, such as a milk or a car monopoly that produces milk and cars of comparatively lower quality and higher prices. In contrast to all other monopolists, the state not only produces inferior goods, but "bads" (nongoods). In fact, it must first produce bads (such as taxes) before it can produce anything that might be considered a (inferior) good.

If an agency is the ultimate judge in every case of conflict, then it is also judge in all conflicts involving itself. Consequently, instead of merely preventing and resolving conflict, a monopolist of ultimate decision making will also cause and provoke conflict in order to settle it to his own advantage. That is, if one can only appeal to the state for justice, justice will be perverted in the favor of the state, constitutions and supreme courts notwithstanding.

Don't blame me. I've never voted to install rulers over my neighbors. How many people on this board can say the same? More importantly, how many voters can present a logical justification for participating in electoral voting?

Only one person I've spoken with has managed to do so.

... and he makes no secret of the fact that his advocacy for violence is at its very core immoral.

So apparently he can't be impeached for repetitively going on TV and lying, but can be impeached for a misdemeanor.

Can he be impeached for falsifying his birth certificate....

How about the V.P, can he be impeached for disclosing seal team 6 got Bin Laden when it was still classified? (it slipped out)

If they break the law, then yes.

edit: actually, it seems to be defined this way:

In the United States, impeachment can occur both at the federal and state level. The Constitution defines impeachment at the federal level and limits impeachment to "The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States" who may be impeached and removed only for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors".[9] Several commentators have suggested that Congress alone may decide for itself what constitutes a "high crime or misdemeanor"

Not really sure what isn't considered "other high crimes and misdemeanors".

Or get a blowjob out of wedlock.

Apparently in the US, you can invade countries, kidnap & torture people, spy on your citizens, but getting blow jobs is out of the question. If you do that, Congress kicks you out of the Whitehouse.

Was just reading a little about this and it was because he lied to a grand jury or something like that. In other words, it was the cover up, not the "crime".

True, but still doesn't excuse Bush and Obama from pissing all over the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, while they wage wars, and spy on their citizens, setup torture camps around the world, etc..

Maybe my memory eludes me, but from what I remember the worst thing Clinton did was bomb the shit out of Yugoslavia, which was justified as Milosevic was committing genocide, who's now sitting in a cell at the Hague. Other than that, he got a few blow jobs from Monica.

So he gets punted, and Bush and Obama get to stay. Makes perfect sense. :)
