What games were you playing back when the internet wasn't widespread yet?

I guess this thread would apply only to those that are over 25, as I define "old school" all the games that came out before 2000. (Ideally before 1995 even)

Here are the games I was hooked up on (Being a teenager back then)

- All the Sierra Games (I fucking LOVED this company!), especially:
---- King's Quest series
---- Quest for Glory series
---- Police Quest series
---- Space Quest series
- Heroes of Might & Magic
- Ultima Ascension and Ultima Online
- Warcraft 1 & 2
- Age of Empires
- Maniac Mansion
- Wolfenstein 3d (The 1st one!)
- Prince of Persion 1 & 2
- Mortal Kombat 2 and Super Street Fighter 2

+1 for King's Quest and Space Quest series. Classics for sure.

Monkey Island series, Full Throttle, Zach McKracken, Maniac Mansion... Lucasarts always delivered the goods. SCUMM engine was amazing.

Heroes Quest 1-4 (Sierra as well)

Myst

7th Guest and 11th Hour

X-Com

So many good games...

Oh yeahhh! I forgot that one. Great game!

Sierra was just miles ahead at the time. Their games were so captivating. Nothing today even comes close to what they did. Sure, today graphics are much better, but stories are dumb and predictable.

I remember playing Wolftenstein 3D at my cousins, his family had a computer before we did. Then when I got a computer my first ever PC game was Doom / Doom 2. I remember building levels and custom sprites/monsters.

Then Q2 was huge for me too.

The Monkey Island series was really good. Didn't play much of Maniac Mansion but I enjoyed it. One of the first computer games I ever played was Jill of the Jungle (platformer).

I love me some SimCopter

Agreed. Sierra made some extremely amazing, cutting-edge games for their time. Same with Lucasarts. These people had passion for what they did, no doubt. And the influence they have in the current game market is just astounding. These people were pioneers and elements from their games are still being used today.

There are game companies right now which are comparable though. Blizzard Entertainment, for example. Quality shines in everything they do. Better technology, but the same core principle.

That principle is captivating gameplay.

What, no one here played Leisure Suit Larry? ;)

I was a serious Star Control Junkie. Anyone here Beat SC2?

Heroes & Anything Lucas Arts rocked... I bought my first PC to play Tie Fighter. And another to play monkey island 2!

+10000000 for Lesiure Suit Larry.....

that was the sh*T!!! god I used to get all excited at the thought of seeing those cartoon boobies

Another Sierra game ftw was Pharoah. Played that shit to death when I was like 8-9.

Best Sierra games were definitely the Half Life universe.

Back then I was also playing like Mech Warrior, Quake, Doom, Unreal (the storyline game), GTA 1 + 2, C+C, and UT99.

EDIT: I remember spending ages as a pre-teen looking for Leisure Suite Larry, was so disappointed when I actually found it. Nude HL, Quake, and RTCW models were ftw back then..

Civilization I.

Still love that game. Now I play Civilization 5, and it's definitely the best one they've put out. Good to play when taking a break from work.

Leisure Suit Larry was good... but in that domain Japanese Hentai games were much better, one that I can think of is Knights of Xentar... probably one of my first masturbation experiences...
