Is a .org as good as a .net or .com? I found a decent <keywords here>.org and am thinking about grabbing it.

To make this relevant to your interests I put forth the sacrificial boobs:

boob fail.

And people feel most comfortable with .com although for some reason teachers and professors believe .org sites are legitimate sources and you can use them.

I can't even believe that this is a serious question, really it all comes down to content. That's all, but yes, for affiliate marketing a .com is always preferable.

Well how the fuck should I know? lol

I know nothing about domains and I rarely see .orgs mentioned. I saw here that .info and others are looked down upon so I'm just curious as I want to use it to get into some networks. Thanks for the answers though.

Here, have more boobs:

.org's are pretty good. i scored a keyword.org and ranked first page within 2days. it wasnt even for seo; just a place to host my lander for ppc.

honestly like kingfish said, test that shit out.

.com is best for everything, SEO, type in, returning visitors, etc.

.net and .org don't usually have a problem ranking. If you brand it right, you can get someone to type in .net (basically .net would have to be part of your company name). People may type in .org, but you'll still lose a lot of traffic to people typing .com by habit.

If you find a good <keywords here>.org (as in high exact match searches), it may be worth registering and developing for some organic traffic, especially if the .com and .net are parked or not resolving at all.

.net isn't even being used but is taken and the .com just looks fucking horrible, I can definitely do better. Guess I'll be snatching that up and finally diving in!

Time for testing, testing and more testing.

And more boobs as thanks:

lol at test it. If the .com and .net are not available how is he supposed to test it? Waste 6 months testing another 3 domains?

Just answer the fucking question, they are nice tits ffs and thats whats important.

.org is fine for seo although .com is probably slightly preferable... the whole 'omg people will type in the .com version!' answer seems parroted around a lot and I never really bought it. It really depends on what type of site you're going for but if you're getting the majority of your clicks from non-direct type ins, which most newly launched sites hence recently registered domains will be, it's sort of a moot point.

everyone, especially people that aren't good with computers will type in .com most of the time...I even do it for craigslist all the time, I know the site is .org, but out of habbit i type in .com

Think Battle.net, brand your site like that. It should be part of your name. No one says "go to Battle", they say "Go to Battle Net." If you want another example that's more relevant, ppc.bz. Do you think "I'm going to ppc!" or "I'm going to ppc dot biz?"

If you're trying to convey trust (ie - sign up for this grant info / take our diet advice / look at our EDU offers etc), I have found .org to convert slightly higher than .com. People tend to associate .org with trustworthy organizations and official sources. Most people don't even realize anyone can register a .org. But I love that marketers tend to ignore them because I have gotten some sweet .org's in the past and banked hard.

Besides, unless you're really branding (which is less likely in aff marketing) then you're paying for your traffic and/or doing SEO so you don't expect any type-in traffic anyway.

You could avoid speculation and just build your site out properly. Deliver content that is relevant, no bullshit, and market yourself well. Traffic is driven by clicks in most cases, so typing in .com rather than .org is not a valid reason for straying from .org domains.

We have and continue to run large campaigns using .org domains and we have no issues. We also run large campaigns with both .net and .com domains. The difference in results are slight at best. Our business model and work ethics never revolved around a domain, and never will. Your ethics, value, and integrity are much more important than the last 3 characters of your domain.

Enjoy, and good luck.

this- I split test this with an identical named .com and .org and found the same. for one niche only however (that I actually tested for).

create a 'seal' as well.

Thanks for all the advice so far!

Since the .com is a piece of shit that hasn't been updated in a while, I'm thinking about offering to buy it. Is this like buying a car, gotta worry about leans and previous damage. I don't want to buy a site that already has bad rep or some shit. It appears as though my boobs have taken off, some hos just don't know their place. I'll return with some of equal or better value.
