In May I purchased a .org domain through Namecheap and went with the option to auto-enable WhoisGuard.

Today I checked by accident the whois info for this domain and discovered that my whois info wasn't protected. A quick check in the Namecheap backend proofed that WhoisGuard was enabled. Updating the WhoisGuard email didn't help, so I opened a support ticket. Their answer:

The information has been updated accordingly. Sometimes this doesn't happen instantly for .org, .info and ,biz domains, which was the reason of the issue in this case. We apologise for the inconveniences caused.
Instantly... It hasn't been active for months! :boid:

Anybody else experienced something like that?

I'm off to check the whois of all my Namcheap domains! Also the .com's and .net's!

Thanks for the heads up. Just checked my .org and .info domains. WhoisGuard seems to be working ok on my end.

This gives me an idea: an auto whoisguard checking service. It checks your sites monthly, and send the site owner a report. Then sell advertising on those emails.

I have over 200 domains and the balance of being naked in public vs laziness to go check 200+ domains... hmm laziness winning.

LOL!!

I can confirm with you that I had similar problems with namecheap and whois protection...sometimes some domains with privacy protection enabled still aren't protected by namecheap.

My domain wasn't .org, so there must be a problem with namecheap's owners across the board, rather than specific to .org owners only...

You think a WhoisGuard is going to save you?
Safe from what? All I need is privacy, and that's what WhoisGuard is for. It's not about hiding from your GOV or FTC.

I made them check all the domains in this account, here's their answer:
I've checked whois information for all the domains residing in your account and they appear to be properly protected. .ORG, .INFO and .BIZ registries sometimes don't accept WhoisGuard information from the first attempt, so we are working to make sure the information is getting updated for all domain extensions in time and with no issues. Once again we apologise for the inconveniences caused by this.
Guess what, WhoisGuard of the domain in question is still not working :angryfire:

Same thing happened to me on an adult domain with the word "prostitute" in the domain name.

Apparently my mother likes to Google my name and spy on me, and that's how I found out that whoisguard wasn't working.
