Out of steam - need ideas

I think most of us can agree its been a tough 2 years

So today I found myself out of steam, out of ideas on stable Internet income.

PPC = Expensive and mostly a waste of money (mostly). I am google certified no need to reply how person a earns 5 mil a day with stupid shit like whatever is the new acai berry or zip submit equivalent. This has become intensely tough in recent years. Only the stupidest or most highly cashed survive, or in rarer cases, the extremely savvy (also requiring reasonable amounts of cash).

Ranking in Google = Wow what a bitch. This high comp keyword I've been trying to rank for, for months, disapears, comes back at rank 150, gets to low 20's, back to 300, vanishes, repeat. This shit has become a bloody war. All the while I'm spending hundreds for links in various manners.

Azoogle and similar friends = Still the same old shit offers, restaurant coupons, zip submits, emails, a few ring tones, dating, and of course make money bullshit. Fuck no, not doing that toilet cleaning level of affiliate marketing again. Stopped years ago.

CJ, Linkshare and so = Better, more quality here, still, dealing with retarded merchants all day long who don't like how you link, how your site looks, or other, bleh. Still tolerate them as I earn most of my income via these types of networks.

Rank your own sites etc = Fucking Google ranking issues and epic expense (or getting bent over by false traffic data - Thanks Google!) Or their unbelievably expensive hard to profit from PPC system. (yes there is adcenter)

So the point of this thread is I would like to get some ideas rolling on current (decent) ways to earn a dollar online, not talking about selling forum points, facebook, or other lower-level type stuff, but stuff that is sustainable at least middle term.

How do you guys acquire new customers for your websites or affiliate sites? No direct details required, just the general idea.

Out of steam and needing some inspiration and ideas

It sounds like you're just bitter toward the industry. It's a tough industry and it can get exhausting. If you've got the motivation and the drive, you can do well for yourself and expand beyond the "toilet scrubbing" in any of the strategies you mentioned.

If I ever need motivation regarding ANYTHING in life, I just watch this:

I'll check out that video in a while cheers. You are right I probably am a little bitter.

Regarding any passionate subjects, um, not really I guess, I'm an IT guy with a shittone of web coding xp so have a semi-interest in IT. I'm coding some nice desktop backup software that I hope will be long term but thats not gonna do much for the next few months.

To me the internet is a thousand ways to "peck at" money.

Need some strategies and ideas anything and everything

Great Vid man =)

I used to pedal a half broken bike 2 miles a day to work at a supermarket, only to earn $8.25 an hour. During this time, I was also enrolled full-time in a tech college for IT.

I pulled my hair out for nearly 2 years trying to make money online and was quite a bitter motherfucker.

Constantly chasing that same rabbit that everyone else was chasing was driving me mad. Everyone said, "Adsense is for losers--CPA is where it's at". If everyone had this general consensus about Adsense, then it must be true, I thought.

However, one day I went against the grain. I did everything opposite of what everyone else was doing.

I experimented with Adsense and found a winner. I've since expanded into 20 markets, and while I won't say how much I make, I will tell you that I make a pretty stable living just from Adsense alone. (I've also expanded into lead generation, rep management, and brand management)

That bicycle is hanging in my garage to remind me of the struggle I went through to get to where I am now.

If I did it, so can you.

It appears that you lack appreciation for what you have.

I cannot believe that you have tried to rank a competitive keyword SEO site for months and it is not ranked yet, crap, I mean how hard is this? Really? "Months" that's the grand effort? You probably should give up.

How about, go out, get a regular job, and work for 6 months. That will give you a fresh and new appreciation for your skills. You have the dream and you do not even know it. I am not certain you know your real problem.

Yuckystuff was going to give you some help..... but your right. Better just keep pecking.

I for sure understand where the OP is coming from. I face a lot of the same issues everyday still after being someone that has "done shit" online for over a decade now. however, at some point you man up and do what you go to do and innovate around you problems.

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

Diversification.

You have to have more than one site, because if you don't, you'll go crazy staring at the SERPS and give up right when things could possibly turn around for that site. At least, this is my opinion.

Also, stop trying to rank for ridiculously competitive terms right off the get go. Enhance your niche finding skills to enable you to find high volume, low to mid competition keywords/terms and niches.

I can tell you right now that I have a txt file with around 100 of these keywords/niches/terms. My problem is that I don't have enough time in the day to build them all out.

Sorry to hear you're out of steam. Maybe you should take a break...like 1 or 2 months away from the whole thing...and come back fresh.

I dunno, just a thought.

What he said. Don't put all your eggs in one basket with just one site. If that one takes a hit you will hate life.

Same here....

Thanks for the replies

Gonna take it easy over the weekend and refocus or something like that on Monday... need a beer

internet marketing is huge..

what ever niche you target..for sure, you will get money( i hope).

maybe you should recheck your technique or knowledge about making money upon certain marketing strategy...AND your mentality, that every internet marketer should have..

It's called "battered webmaster syndrome". Kind of like "battered wife syndrome" but you don't know who to strike out at....

This happens to all of us from time to time due to the hours and the stress involved in internet marketing.

My advice.... take a three day weekend with your girl, go to the beach and don't even think about the internet. The first few hours you may suffer from bandwidth withdrawal but it gets better if you drink.

i like the beach idea - definitely need to switch off - i've found myself getting way too drawn into always trying to do something productive - truth is when you're burned out and not in focus you do such bad/slow work compared to when you're refreshed.

Try the $5 a day program. Take a few days off, like other people have suggested. Then when you get back, make a list of some ideas that you can do to create something that PASSIVELY makes you $5 a day.

There are a lots of potential ideas. Just spill your guts and think of as many as possible. Write them all down. Go through the list and pick the number 1 easiest method.

Do NOTHING else but work on that method for at least 2 weeks (or until you finish your task).

Let's pretend you selected Adsense as the #1 easiest passive idea. So, for the next 2 weeks you will do whatever you need to do to build a passive Adsense income that has the potential for $5 a day. Do nothing else.

Give yourself at least 3 attempts to get it right (I mean create at least 3 Adsense projects and work on completing them in 2 weeks or less). That is a full 6 to 9 weeks (depending on your work load and time off).

If at the end of that time, you can honestly say that it is not working (AND you ask for help here if you are stuck), then go back to your list and pick another idea to earn $5 a day.

It's the proverbial story of eating an elephant one bit at a time.
