So in the last few months i've had to pay a fair amount of Tax, bills, etc.
It's left me somewhat in "the red". Namely around $4000.
I hadn't really paid much thought to it but now i'm starting to and it's worrying me.

You see, my girlfriend and I are looking into getting our first place together, but i don't want to move in with debts hanging around as we'd both end up paying them when it's not her place to.

So i'm looking at you horrible lot to help me out.

  • Anyone been in a similar situation, if so what did you do?
  • Is there anything i can do to make more money, i know the usual "Make something that makes $1 a day then multiply it" - believe me i'm trying but everything i try on my own ends up in the gutter sooner or later.
$4000 is my target, pocket change to most of you, but to me it's a hell of a lot. I've learnt LOADS from this forum, but for one reason or another i haven't ever made any real bank, especially not on this scale.

Now, here's where the Newbie part comes out.

Would anyone consider working with me on ANYTHING that will make some money, we can go 50-50 on everything up until $4000 then from that point on; 100% is yours.

I'm good at SEO, i can do some PHP, a fair amount of HTML and alot of Photoshopping.

I'm a hard worker, and once i get my teeth stuck in i'm 100% commited.

Anyone got ANYTHING for me?

I've walked in your shoes, and I feel for you. I remember I worked really hard on my first job, and right after we got married, my boss told me to bring a copy of the bills for all of my debts. It was nearly $4000, and he paid them all off. This is one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me, and I am still thankful to this day.

Dang, that was pretty nice of him.
No chance of that happening with me.

No chance of overtime either, which would have made my life ALOT easier.

bambam - your noobness really shows in financial things.

I'll outline our method tonight.

::emp::

there are a lot of sites that hire programmers etc check them out; or pull a DP and whore out some of your knowledge in a ebook! (god forbid!).
But yea check out sitepoint etc where people are hiring for small jobs, i recently made a few hundred $$ just setting up wordpress and stuff

mm... I've been there...

I think you need patience, calm and a strategy. The only way to get money is to sell something. Forget the bul**hit, go sell something. Your SEO service? Fine, start with Craigslist, go on with Adoos... etc., then post a small classified in the paper, then call your friends and tell them about it, then post a few flyers where everybody buys her bread.

Go sell, Facebook won't give you any extra money.

Now the problem with selling my SEO knowledge is it would end up with me jobless - I work for an advertising company and it's against my contract to do any Freelance SEO.

If the money was there i would do it, but it's not. So i have to find other ways.

emp: Can you PM me? I'm confused by tonight. lol

Just transfer money into into a 0% credit card. You will pay a 2% balance transfer fee but its cheaper than paying it off while its at 19.9APR or something. If its a loan you have, see if you could lower the apr by changing.

I am paying off my debt at the moment. Last month I paid of $6000. This month I am going to pay off $4000. Will be paying $2k-$4k per month. I still got around $17k in credit cards which is interest free though. I'll just balance transfer them when it comes.

Also I have $26k in loans. hope to pay that off in a year. You guys may think i have alot of debt. But in relative terms, in UK, it kinda typical.

Its just one of my motivations to make more money online to pay it off.

I don't know exactly what form the debts take, but if it's different loans, credit cards, revolvers etc. I would recommend that you sit down and figure out which one has the highest cost of interest (not the interest rate, but the actual dollar figure that the interest is costing you monthly) and beat it down with every spare penny you can find. Make minimums on the other stuff, stop smoking, take the bus, get a night job if you can't get sufficient freelancing gigs, etc. until that first one is paid off. By getting that biggest cost of interest down you're getting an immediate increase in your leftover money at the end of the month. Subsequent debts get easier to pay off as you have more and more money with which to work.

(Note that this also makes a mid-term assumption regarding what kind of timeline you're on.)

As far as your freelancing skills go, I'd say if you're good with the Photoshop then focus on that. The one kind of help I seem to always find in short supply are designers and graphics guys who have an available space for my work. There are lots of them out there, but none can ever get on a deadline that suits me due to their workloads.

And, if you're really good with PS and can put up some online examples, at the risk of being stoned to death I say join the WarriorForum and do a WSO for graphics work. You might raise the whole four grand in one fell swoop.

My skills in Photoshop are there, but my design skills aren't.

Editing i can do no problem, i saw the thread in the BST section offering photo cut-outs and thought "I can do that, prob to a better level as well" but then also noticed there wasn't much interest in it.

What kind of PS things are people looking for nowadays?

Cutting out is easy, vectoring logos is easy, etc etc.

Thanks for the advice.

All the ideas I can think of for quick cash rely on living in an area with a sizeable population base.

Nightclub promotion... Big clubs will pay you something like $1 per person you get through the door (+ drink card!). If you can get your promoter code onto enough shit out there to a large enough club, you can make a few hundred a week with piss all effort. The thread I started on bluevertising is probably a really good way of doing exactly that: http://www.wickedfire.com/traffic-supreme/30622-idiots-leave-bluetooth-discoverable-mode.html

Come to think of it, http://www.wickedfire.com/traffic-supreme/29018-getting-them-college-kids.html probably works too, although could be better for some CPA/CPS marketing that's based around their needs, such as cheap educational text books and software.

You could also try scamming people. Find out the email addresses of Fortune 500 CEO types, and just tell them you'll "reveal their shameful secret" if they don't pay into an eGold account.
Apparently this one nets a few billion yen in Japan every year...

There are all sort of jobs over on places like rentacoder.com and odesk.com.
Surely, you can make some extra $ there too.

Hey Bam, you've always been kickass to me in the past. Shoot me a PM, I can give you some side work.

It's not much, but I'd like to help you out with what I can.

Hey BamBam,

Have you tried PPC when you say

"believe me i'm trying but everything i try on my own ends up in the gutter sooner or later."

Why i ask is that i am currently just starting out on PPC and im thinking if you are struggling what chance have i got. I have read a few of your posts and it seems you know what you are talking about.

Good luck anyways tho mate. Debt is a BITCH.

Not sure what people are looking for to be honest ... I know what I look for, which tends to be relatively simple but time-consuming stuff like converting a big stock photo into a fast-loading but quality blog header with buttons and bars for the theme that compliment the colour scheme of the header.

"how to" photoshop - Google Search

Might give you some ideas of help for which people are looking. Tutorial sites/blogs that tally views and comments might give you an idea as well. A suggested refinement of the above search thread that just came to mind:

"how to" photoshop site:digg.com - Google Search

Of course, there's the matter of what to do with the stunning new knowledge of the PS-illiterate market, ie. how to get the word out and convert it to dollars in your pocket quickly. But if your skills can address problems and questions you find out there, that is at least a good start.

Thanks for the advice.

Hope it helps.

You need to learn to fail quickily as possible and often as possible. Everything you start a project and it doesn't work out you need to go and celebrate. You did something most people don't... that is TRY... Just keep working/failing/learning and one of these times something will happen and it won't break and it'll work and you'll look back at your post like... "woah, I can't believe I wrote that"
