PayPal asking for my SSN

Paypal recently asked for me to submit my social security number because I'm withdrawing more than $500/month. I did it, but I'm curious if anyone knows if I should be paranoid for any reason.

They sent me a new card once even though the one I had still had like two years left to go before it expired. I tried to activate it (cause it was shiny) and they said they needed my social in order to activate it, and I was like oh no you didn't. I used the old card til it expired and now just transfer funds out of there.

This is why I like bitcoin. Everyone can fuck off with their reporting requirements. How much I make, and how much I have is my own business, nobody else's. Plus nobody else needs access to my money, except me.

Well, until the Feds figure out that you've been under reporting and they take you to court. Then it's going to be public record and available for everyone with a PACER account and a couple of nickles.

As for PayPal and SSN, they've had mine for as long as I've had any account above a personal one. Well actually they have my EIN, not my SSN. Since you're on this forum OP, I'm assuming that you do or have done some affiliate marketing. If you have, you've no doubt handed over a SSN or EIN to some networks. As much as I don't care for PayPal, I'd feel much safer handing over either of those ID numbers to them than I would some of the shady ass aff. networks.

Paranoids are gonna paranoid I guess.

Also, why do you people, you US people anyway, not have an EIN in lieu of your SSN for this shit. It's free and takes less than 5 minutes to get.

I understand that it's being reported to the IRS, I'm just making sure that there isn't anything shady (besides the government) that I should be worried about.

I would give yourself a pat on the back for joining the $500/month club and carry on.

If your balance is negative for any reason - Ask Paypal to submit their company Tin number , company's confidential documents and their CEO's Id proofs(driving license/passport) and after you receive those let them know the funds will be available to them after 180 days .

WELL - this is what they do when we have a good balance and legit business.

This is to comply with the recent adjustment to the so called PATRIOT ACT. The number is directly transmitted to the IRS, and might cause you problems if you're under-reporting your online income.

Just to let you know the number is verified through the IRS, put in a wrong number and see what happens in a few days.

Google is doing it too!

I'm new to this and was just asking a question because I wasn't born with the endless knowledge and experience of making money online. I understand that it's your job to fuck with new people so this forum doesn't turn into a shit show, but I'm serious about this and just want to understand what I'm dealing with.

It's PayPal abiding by the law, and AML / KYC requirements. They're required to know you well enough to ensure you're not a money laundering terrorist.

Don't worry, them asking for your SSN# is fine. Well, I don't personally agree, which is why I don't use PayPal. Don't worry though, it's standard. Your account hasn't been red flagged, or anything.

Paypal has never asked me... why? Probably because I do not have one, live in one country, bank in another country, the bank does not ask for it as I dont live there and neither does paypal, just sayin.
