Just got this and it put a big fat smile on my face:

Transactions that were once ineligible for Seller Protection due to unconfirmed addresses are now eligible. Your account associated with gay@webmaster.com has been selected as an early participant in this change; PayPal will extend coverage changes to all accounts by the end of the year.

I'd love to think that all the BitCoin talk has them thinking twice about putting a little more effort into their merchant relations.

I would think its more to do with legislation and trying to avoid fines

Good point. Probably both are playing a factor. In the end, even though bitcon is less likely to do any real damage to their business, it has the potential to truly destroy their business. Big companies pay lots of attention to possible blackswans like bitcoin becoming main stream. The fines are more likely, but comparatively are likely less damaging in real term dollars (for the most part, fines have been a swat on the wrist with an overcooked noodle)

Fuck paypal. After 15 years of putting up with their bullshit, there is nothing they can do to get me to give them a nickel.

This.

I don't care if they're on an upward trend. They've been on a downward spiral for way too long for me to ever work with them again especially when there are new players in the game like Stripe.

They have stock in stripe...

I really wish eBay didn't own Paypal because they are greedy fucking pigs. It's amazing the Paypal fees aren't higher than they are.

(their fees are lower than Stripe)

I got this to and I'm not even a seller, but I do have a business account that I've had for years. I send about $10k to $20k a year through it to various services though.

BTW, I know paypal are fucks that will steal from whoever they feel like. But... my customers want to pay that way; the fees aren't terrible and my risk analysis for my particular situation is such that I'm very comfortable taking business with Paypal. The money that comes in I always evacuate from my account ASAP (either spend or wire)

I have come to accept dancing with the devil as a part of success.

My opinion on Paypal has gone up in the past couple of months.

They contacted me out of the blue saying that they were willing to decrease my Paypal fees by 25% because of the volume I was processing. They also recently contacted me to let me know that I can access funds even if they are currently being disputed or charged back because of my good history with them.

I certainly still have some gripes with them, but they've made a recent effort to make it easier to work with them, and I appreciate that.

Paypal AU has always been good for me as well. If they bring an issue up they are quick to respond. A lot of the people who've had problems are breaking rules whether knowingly or not. Many of the sellers try to hide shit as personal payments, charge customers for fees or take part in ridiculous affiliate programs. Some just are selling dodgy shit that no other sane merchant account would want to deal with either.

As a buyer they've been great at sorting out non-delivery of products which is a huge plus.

Fuck Paypal. They didn't mind fucking over sellers and getting away with robbery for 10 years when they were the only game in town.

Then some competition finally springs up and its "Oh haha, sorry for fucking you guys over for so long. Guess we'll start working on it...no hard feelings?"

If Paypal was truly stepping up their game, they'd allow you to view more than 20 history search results at a time.

20? Are you f'in kidding me?

I feel like I'm the only one who has been a 6+ year user of PayPal and never had a bad experience.

I'm with you on this. Been using them for many years and no major issues at all. They've held payments a few times in the past, but it's so rare with the volume I do that it's basically a nonissue.

And when I need to get a hold of them, their customer support is top notch and responsive. Always quick, always fixes the problem. I really don't understand the hate.

The fees people are bitching about are a cost of doing business. Which is something I would think people on a fucking marketing forum would understand. They need to make money somehow. I don't mind the small fees for the convenience.

Seems like scammers and scumbags have the most problems with paypal, so it's probably working as intended.

Feelings are for women. I do risk/cost/benefit analysis of the different situations and take the most strategically sound approach.
