Permalink When In Multiple Categories (Wordpress)

Last time I asked a wordpress question here it was answered really quickly, but I'm not sure what the protocol on asking this stuff is. Let me know if this isnt the place to get wordpress support.

I want to list a post, in wordpress, in multiple categories, but I want to be able to choose which category shows up in my permalink structure. Right now no matter what order I pick the categories the lowest id number is always the one that is used. Any one know how to make it so it is whatever I pick?

I tried creating the post and only picking the category I want first. Then going back and updating it with the others, but it changes the link again.

I'd rather not use a plugin, but if that's what it takes.

Hopefully the answer to this isn't blatantly obvious.

A plugin is your only option as Wordpress defaults to this lowest category ID behaviour with no way to override.

I haven't used it, but this plugin is supposed to solve that very problem:

This might do it too, though looks more manual:
WordPress › Custom Permalinks WordPress Plugins

It doesn't state clearly whether it works with more recent WP versions.

The first time you post it, only select the category you want it displayed in. Then go back, edit, and add the other ones - it should not change the permalink.

I don't really have a better answer because I've never needed to control the category permalink. I bet there is a real simple & easy way to control it.
