I think this happened before with orangutans or something, but I'm not sure if PETA was behind it. Either way I find it interesting since this type of shit is going to happen more as time goes on.
Animal rights aren't something that would regress, so many types of animals having actual rights in the future is pretty likely I'd imagine, how soon is anyone's guess though.

If this passes, then shouldn't that whale that drowned the trainer be charged for murder and incarcerated?
he didnt say we were superior to whales...he was just noting the ridiculousness of giving constitutional rights to whales. enacting laws to protect them is one thing, but giving them constitutional rights? fuck that. our constitution is diluted and distorted enough as it is.

I was simply putting the idea of giving constitutional rights to other species into perspective, they aren't 'equal' in the traditional sense of the word.
However, don't be so quick to put down plants, they live, reproduce, consume, and evolve just like animals. Depends how you think of equality, on a level of sentience and consciousness, plants display intelligent qualities that surpass many animal species. Just saying, if you start granting constitutional rights to other species, you can't discriminate based on how cute they are.
They can't feel pain, they don't have brains... Reacting to stimuli, like turning to the sun, or closing leaves to trap insects isn't a sign of intelligence.
And personally, I don't discriminate based on how cute things are. The only animals I kill are mosquitos and horseflies, and that's only if they're in my bedroom waiting to drink my blood.
I was simply trying to demonstrate how blurry the lines get when you start giving rights to other species with a radical example- I have no delusions of plants feeling pain or exhibiting the characteristics of an intelligent being, but where do you draw the line? Which forms of life get rights and which don't? Who are we to decide that? After all, if we protect someone with constitutional rights, are they not obligated to follow the laws that entails? It's just a publicity stunt, I hope.
I say we just look out for ourselves and try not to torture anything.

I know you're probably trolling but these also work on other humans, just sayin. It's a piss poor excuse everyone uses. Just because you have the power to do something doesn't mean it's ok (duh). As soon as you replace the human with animal it seems to be though.
