I'm currently working on an asset management software, it is written in php and uses a mysql database.

How can I make it easy for the customers to install? The demographic I'm aiming towards has little computer knowledge.

Maybe pack up something like XAMPP/EasyPHP together with the software into an installer?

Hmm but I'm selling a really high priced product, 4 maybe 5 digits.

I would prefer to not be involved after the product is sold other than offering updates. But on the other hand recurring income sounds pretty good as well. Does anyone have experience with it? How much can I charge?

$100 / month at least. Don't allow yourself to appear cheap. The alternative is "3 years hosting included" paid up front for the "premium" version.

much better is install your php + mysql database on hosting company, its more secure & safe. so there will be no missconfiguration doing with your client

If you're selling a product that is 4 to 5 digits it shouldn't be too hard for the user to hire someone to install the product. Another option is to offer an installation service, I see this a lot, and you could make some nice extra ching for your efforts.

I'll give it a try with offering hosting and updates at 150$/month. There is no competition in my niche so I'll give it a try and maybe go lower later.

That also gives me an option of offering refunds, otherwise I wouldn't be able to prevent them using the software even after a refund...

Thanks for the input guys, those numbers are still playing a little bit with my head...
