Hey,

Since I saw the Oxy thread I figured I could throw this out there. I'm in a little bit of a situation. Currently I'm stuck with good ol' Strep Throat (103 fever, etc) and those huge ass powder pills (Augmentin).

The problem is that my tonsils are so swollen that if I try to swallow the pills, it triggers the gag reflex and I end up choking. Any suggestions on how I could get these fuckers down?

The only other thing I can think of is mashing them up.. but even then, where to put them. No alternative pills, no gel caps or anything along those lines that I've seen/heard of. So what to do?

Any tips, people?

Powder them down add some water to it put it in a spoon, suck it up with a hyperdermic needle and inject it into your neck vein...therefore bypassing the throat. :)

LOL, just powder them and drink some water with the powder.

:.emp::

dont get addicted to oxy thats all i can say fuck that shit, just be happy your not snorting it, but then again, just snort your pills that you have if you cant swallow them, i know im a great help

woah woah woah - don't forget to heat it up and use some cotton to filter out any chunks - just don't get cotton fever!:)

Crush them and put them in a Slurpee (if you have a 7-11 close by) or make a smoothie with a ton of ice in it and put them in there.

The crushed ice will soothe your tonsils and you'll be able to drink.

If you keep having trouble, Augmentin is definitely available in liquid forum. It's thick, so you may still want to put it into a drink but you won't have to mash the pills.

Have your dr. give you that if you can't get these down regularly, you shouldn't have been given pills to swallow with strep and if you don't take them you're going to end up really sick.

Yeah, I'll have to see if I can put a call in for the liquid. I haven't even gone to the doctor this time, I know it's strep. Not worth paying 300ish for a visit if I know what it is - and I had the pills left over from last time (4 bottles or so).

Make SURE you take the full treatment (I think it's 7 days), or you're going to keep getting it. If you feel great halfway through and stop taking them, the antibiotics don't have a chance to kill all the bacteria so it comes back easily.

I'm a pro at this, I'm a mom. Strep care comes in the mom manual. :)

Man, we moan about the National Health Service here.. but $300 to see a doc (I take it you're in the US?).. I'm happy to pay higher taxes.. We are fuckin lucky!

Yes you are. I always hear people saying that it takes "months and months and OMGWTFPWNED months" to get any service when there is socialized healthcare. That's a pretty reasonable point of view if you have the money to buy private insurance. Unfortunately, not everybody can afford super-expensive private insurance, and employers are offering plans that are nearly worthless. Hell, I can't go to a emergency room within 50 miles, and I work for a company IN THAT INDUSTRY. It's a racket and needs to go.

I'm against government intrusion in almost every area, but it's freaking ridiculous that one medical catastrophe can bankrupt a family that has done everything right. Time to find a way to make the European and Canadian system work here.

PS: And don't tell me that the problem is malpractice insurance. Medicare runs more efficiently, costs less, and covers more than private insurers.

PSS: This was way off-topic. Ignore please.

I sure did appreciate the UK's NHS service, despite people moaning about it the service was always amazing for my family & friends. Now in Canada I appreciate the OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), but still see the UK's system to be better.

I cannot believe how bad the healthcare is in the US, if you have money you're fine! Let's hope Michael Moores new movie "Sicko" makes some move ...

lol I never go to the doctor when I get sick. I just call up one of the family's doctor friends, get some amoxicillin, and pop those suckers! :D

Gone in 3 days.

I know in my city a trip to the ER will cost you $130 just to see a doctor, not including tests and any needed medication.

Last year, after I ended up in the ER, I needed to get surgery, but at the time, I wasn't covered on any insurance plan. But, I didn't really have a choice. Either I got the surgery or I faced some serious health consequences. Needless to say, I went ahead and underwent the surgery even without insurance.

I got the bill a month later and it was fuckin $7000. For a two hour surgery, and no overnight stay. Yeah, the state of healthcare in this country is FUCKED. No way to sugarcoat it. I'm still slowly paying that shit off.

My surgeon was very cool, and knew I didn't have insurance. He agreed not to charge me for his services (which would have been probably another $2-3k), and lived up to his word... but I still had to pay the hospital for their services.

It's absolutely ridiculous how expensive healthcare is in this country, but it's easy to pinpoint at least ONE reason why... our public education system. It doesn't challenge kid to excel and actually become doctors... it just teaches them to scrape by and work at walmart for the rest of their lives. Only the privately educated rich kids grow up to be doctors, which insures they keep the competition low (supply and demand) and keep the money where the money is now - the upper class.

Fuck it, I'm having trouble trying to phrase that last paragraph the way it should sound... but I think you all understand my basic points.

/end rant.

Hell, you know another good point - let me know if anyone has the cost for an ambulance to come pick you up. I heard that's F-ing outrageous as well.

It pisses me off here when they talk about spending billions on renewing our supposed 'independent nuclear deterrent' when that money would be better spent on health, education or (in my opinion) foreign aid.

Considering the amount of your taxes that are spent on the military (and given to Israel), if I was an American I would not be happy!

EDWARDS 08! ...

Lol, don't know that much about it really - but he seems like a decent politician (if that's not an oxymoron!)
