So I had an itch to play online poker yesterday (after taking break about 2 years ago) and what a cluster fuck this is these days to play online from the US. Fulltilt down, Lederer & co likely going to jail for running a Ponzi scheme, Pokerstars still around, but real tricky to get set up.

I managed to get on to Pokerstars via one of my VPS boxes hosted in Europe (Germany), but funding the account is no easy task. UKash (sold at gas stations) was about the easiest option, still messy though. And getting the money back out - that would feel pretty close to money laundering ...

Then I go read about the guys I remember playing with and they either quit, moved on or moved to places like Canada, so they can keep on playing ... WTF.

Anyone here can scratch my poker itch? You guys didn't all quit, did you?

(as in - yeah - VPS or good proxy is the way to go & I figured out the funding in/out - here is how)

cake is crap... filled with shitty players and 1/2 2/5 5/10 tables are no where to be found...

use vps... travel... open up foreign bank account... report earnings... done

I still have money stuck in Full Tilt...which I will never see again.

I haven't tried that hard to play online, although I do miss it especially during football season. When I want to play, I just go to one of the local places and play live.

Multi-tabling is frowned upon at the local places I go to :)

Sorry to hear about your cash stuck at Full Tilt. Durrr said something about reimbursing people who lost their money.

Pokerstars looks flush with players - it showed 150k people last time I looked. Plenty of action at the mid-stakes NLHE and Omaha tables.

Right. It looks like that's what it comes down to. You still need a non-US form of identification, local phone number and utility bill. Cashing out will be a mess, no doubt.

Ahhh it was only about $1k, but still annoying.

I have thought about getting a good friend of mine that lives in France to set up an account for me and just paypal her the money. I trust her enough, but been too busy to execute on it.

I do miss playing multiple tables.

Yeah, Pokerstars is the way to go IMO, I think finding a system of depositing/withdrawing will be much better than going with some bootleg 2nd rate Poker network.

There's still tons of action on PS, I still play since I'm not in the US. The guarantees for MTTs are lower, but if you're a cash game player, from what I've seen, the tables are SLIGHTLY softer because there aren't anymore US grinders. There are some really tough Europeans on mid/high stakes though. But yes, tons of action still on PS.

I played on Cake before, games are soft, but yes the interface is shit.

I brought their site up the other day to check it out and got distracted... probably by WF. LOL.

They are changing their name, just got the email today. It's going to be Bovada... double LOL.

Bodog is withdrawing services from the US market and Morris Mohawk is going to keep providing those services under the Bovada name. Bodog will still exist elsewhere as Bodog from what I understand.

Your choices are rather limited, Carbon, Cake, Bovada, BetOnline, Intertops, Lock and a handful of new sites some running on Cake or Carbon that I've never heard of (like Juicy Stakes) and which could be gone tomorrow.

I don't know where I would play online if I was in the US, probably the Kahanawake operators, but any of them could get shut down by the DoJ without warning.
