It's an interesting social construct.
I've talked to several women who seemed dead-set against it, some who thought it was interesting, and some (a small minority) who had been in an open relationship before and had mixed feelings.
The women who were dead-set against it mentioned that they didn't want to share their husband/boyfriend, that the idea would lessen their relationship in that regard. Jealousy came up a lot.
The ones who thought it was interesting liked the idea of sharing housework and the extra income that would come in. The problem of childcare would be addressed as well. The more immediate family members, the easier things would be.
The 2 women who had been in a polyamorous relationship previously both said they enjoyed the freedom and variety, but that inequity (or perceived inequity) had to be quashed - and that it came up a lot. They both said they'd consider it again.
Guys seemed to be all in favor of it. I think they only thought about the extra sex they seemed to be having.
There are any number of related factors that seem to weight my opinion towards legalizing the practice.
1) Why should we tell adults who they can't marry or enter a partnership with? As long as nobody is being forced into a relationship, why not?
2) Men tend to take themselves out of relationship eligibility (prison, accidents, war, etc) so that women start to outnumber men pretty quickly.
3) A real destroyer of relationships - infidelity - would drop somewhat I think, due to a number of factors.
4) We don't prosecute other sexual "crimes" such as adultery anymore.
I found a post that made me think twice about just how against polygamy women might be:
Just bored at work and thinking it would be nice to come home to two women in bed more often.

I think polygamy should be legal. I am a divorced Orthodox Jewish woman. Most of the men my age who are divorced are only looking for sex. I am really sick of it. And most of them are also other women's discarded former abusive spouses (like mine). Why do I have to choose to marry among the garbage pile? Why can't I have someone decent and loving with a good track record for responsibility? Your bologny that some men will get none while others get all the women is just your jealousy. A man - a real man - gets what he deserves. Why can't I have a real man? Why do I have to be sentenced for eternity to be single and lonely or married to some other woman's ex-loser?
