Health experts claim your stools reveal a lot about the health of your gut microbiome. The Bristol Stool Chart, displayed below, is used as an evaluation tool.

Where are you on the chart?

You may be averse to sharing. I understand. People are uncomfortable talking openly about this stuff. Yet millions of folks deal with painful, even debilitating, gut issues and bowel movements. From hard-to-pass stools once a week to explosive diarrhea several times a day, the issues are all over the board.

I had problems when I was younger. I hid them because they were embarrassing (I didn't realize most folks have problems in this area). My issues were resolved after I did a lot of research, talked to others who had fixed their own problems, and made changes accordingly. Life got much better. :)

So, where are you on the above chart?

I'll start. I'm usually a 4, and occasionally a 5.

By the way, I realize WF has a few malcontents who will be inclined to post disgusting pics of feces. If that's you, please don't.

Here are a few related threads for your reading pleasure:

Pretty much a low point for Wickedfire. Let's turn this around guys.

Type 4 usually, Type 7 the morning after eating cheap Chinese takeout.

I range anywhere from 3 to 5 and sometimes almost pure water. I don't know what the hell's going on in there.

I got together with a close friend recently. He confided that he's been dealing with constant gut pain and terrible BMs for a long time. We've been close for over 40 years, yet never discussed it.

That's what prompted me to start this thread. Most people are (understandably) turned off by the topic. I get that. But I'd still be dealing with my own issues if everyone around me had clammed up years ago.

What the fuck's the point of this thread?

Your chart creates zero value for anyone. All it does it creates some sort of classification for how your shit looks.

If on the other hand you had posted a chart with something actionable, such as: if your stool is type 5, you likely need more fiber, etc., then there'd be value.

...but without that value, what you have instead is a shit thread.

Edit: Here's what pissed me off:

Your hook is "Health experts claim your stools reveal a lot about the health of your gut microbiome." Then you go on to post shit that doesn't reveal shit.

You have unreasonable expectations of me. There is no way for me to diagnose and recommend a course of action based on a single digit. How do I know if a person is diabetic, allergic to nightshades, or taking antibiotics? How do I know whether someone is already taking prebiotics or consuming a heavy volume of insoluble fiber? And so on.

There is no way for me to know these and other things without discussion. It would be irresponsible of me to recommend a course of action in ignorance.

Believe it or not, I started this thread with good intentions. But I'm willing to admit it's unlikely to find a receptive audience here.

Lesson learned.

Jake have you seen a doctor. I mean, I'm not fucking Doctor ,(except a love Doctor) but I'm pretty sure BM's shouldn't be painful. Maybe its what you're eating but Prostate cancer is like a very real thing.

That said I used to have debilitating cramps, constipation, then diarrhea. Pains so bad it would wake me up in the middle of the night and keep me up for hours until I took the biggest shit known to man. Like "where'd the water go?" kinda shit when I went to flush. Not every day but I could count on it once a month. Turns out I have mild Crohn's, they prescribed some shit, never took it, just changed my diet and now I might have a mild attack once a year.

Anyway moral of the story, get yourself checked out. Painful bowels and shits can be the sign of something more serious, or you're just eating something your body doesn't like.

Mongolian bef. #7 every time. Otherwise a 4-5. Floaters.

Costco Tencel baby wipes are numero uno, butt I always shower afterwards. Always.

I approve this message and thread.

I was able to resolve my issues years ago.

Changes in diet were a major part of the fix in my case. When you're in your 20s, you can eat nails and cement and have no trouble with evacuation. My body became less tolerant of my dietary shenanigans as I grew older.

That's probably true for most people. The problem is, most people just grow accustomed to the problem - straining becomes the norm - and neglect to figure out the root causes. That, in turn, is probably one of the reasons so many folks deal with hemorrhoids later in life...

About 75 percent of people will have hemorrhoids at some point in their lives. Hemorrhoids are most common among adults ages 45 to 65.

From what I've heard, doctors are unhelpful when it comes to gut issues. If a medical condition like Crohn's or UC presents, they can diagnose and treat it (although the course of treatment is often dubious, highlighting meds and surgery over less invasive measures). But when gut issues present without a clear cause, doctors often chalk it up to IBS, nothing more than a catchall phrase.

Glad to hear that.

Yep I was diagnosed with IBS for years before they tested for Crohn's for the 4th time. So mild that it didn't show up on tests for years.

In all seriousness... the best natural laxative is resveratrol 50%. The 50% signifies a high percentage of emodin. Costco (again with the Costco) has the Trunature brand of resveratrol which is ideal for maintaining regularity. DO NOT take more than 1/day of the 250mg gels (500mg total; 50% trans-resveratrol), until you ascertain your bowel-tolerance.
