Okay....i just lost 20 hours of my life setting up an adwords campaign for a local business. (Chiropractor). Went through over 15,000 keywords pulled out of term explorer reduced my list down to 1600.

The data includes exact match variations / combinations of the main keyword. Sub professions and various treatable conditions. Each keyword is assigned a semantic group.

Having read cashvertising back to back I am now in the process of writing targeted verbage for each kw group.

So my question....how long should this normally take? Am I doing something wrong?

It's like anything else. With practice you'll get better, faster, and more efficient. There will be less second guessing, more tools you've found to speed along the process, and fewer mistakes.

Eventually what took 20 hours will take 2 or so. Practice, practice, practice.

I remember once I had an employee do a campaign with over 100 adgroups sub-sections, with multiple ads, a/b split tested, tracked, etc. Took her 1 month to complete it, but in the end, it was one of the top and most profitable campaigns to-date. Since you are in the writing advertising mode, there is a great thread about this in the enlightened section which I've been utilizing for years as my starting point -> http://www.wickedfire.com/enlighten...eted-ads-get-highly-converting-campaigns.html

Read it, you won't regret it. I have a copy of the print out within 10 feet of me at all times, had it for like 4 years...

Thanks for your input CCarter, the link you provided was my starting point per your recommendation in earlier threads. I then moved onto Cashvertising. I'm 20 hours in to the campaign. I have only just started writing the advertising copy using what I learned from the above sources. Split testing will be next.

At a conservative estimate this will take in excess of 40 hours for the first revision.

1 month you say.....okay.....that gives me renewed focus. Back at it. I seriously under quoted for this.

I still have a list of medical conditions a mile long that I need to run further KW research on.

@CCarter quick question regarding your employee/campaign.

To confirm 1 ad-words campaign, 7 hours per day, each working day for a month?

To put it in perspective, the campaign was an eCommerce website with over 50,000 individual items. We did ADGroups according to the most profitable items AND the items that had the most traffic (loss leader). We concentrated on about 1000 items, if I recall correctly. It also depends on how accurate and detailed you want to get. We were very detailed. You may want to only concentrate on buying keywords (most profitable) when setting a campaign in the beginning.

No, the one employee was working like 10-14 hours days, and weekends... It was a serious campaign for a very well known brand. we eventually got her an assistant. It was a murderous campaign...

Usually campaigns take me about 10 hours, average. But again, it depends on the end goal of the campaign. I usually only concentrate on profitable keywords, not really a big fan of loss leaders unless necessary. But that's just me.
