Quick question, I recall reading about this in the past and just wanted to confirm.

If I have

blue widgets
[blue widgets]
"blue widgets"

all in one ad group

is it safe to assume that a search for:

- blue widgets shows up in the campaign stats as [blue widgets]
- widgets blue shows up in the campaign stats as "blue widgets"
- and anything else related would go to blue widgets - broad match?

Almost.

- blue widgets would show up in the campaign stats as [blue widgets]
- big blue widgets would show up in the campaign stats as "blue widgets"
- widgets blue and anything else related would go to blue widgets - broad match

ah i c, thanks arz so having all 3 matches in 1 ad group - google will differentiate it and divide the stats?

Yeah.
One of the benefits of using all three match types is that you can set separate bids for each one. For example, you could bid $0.30 for exact match (because you know it will be relevant to what you offer), $0.20 for phrase match (because it's pretty likely to be relevant), and $0.15 for broad match.
