PPC to merchant best practices?

Hello fellow marketers, great forum! I stumbled upon this great site a couple of weeks ago. Very refreshing. This is my first post.

I have a little experience in PPC to affiliate business. In the past I have sent PPC traffic to landing pages with reviews/tips with a link to the the merchant.

To test new merchants, I would like to send PPC traffic directly to the merchant (via some kind of redirect to capture referrer info). What is the best
way to do this without sending referrer/keyword info to merchant?
I have heard about using rewrite in htacess to redirect, would this pass referrer data?

You could send them to a page on your site with a meta refresh. I don't think that would pass on the referrer/keyword info to the merchant. I don't know for sure, but I think using .htaccess will pass the referrer info to the merchant.
