I know there are several Dream Theater fans here. I recently stumbled onto Pagan's Mind, a band with a similar sound. They've been around awhile, and you'll find two of their albums below:

I also stumbled upon Pomegranate Tiger, a prog metal instrumental group (great when you need to cut the lyrics and get some creative work done). Here's their album:

And here's a good collection of Dream Theater songs without the lyrics (originally posted here):

Enjoy. And if you know of similar bands, I'd love to hear about them.

I'm going to see Tool on Tuesday. Box seats with a bar. Should be a good (and total shit)show.

Edit: After clicking youtube vids, I realize Tool must not be progressive. Disregard. Pagan's Mind sounds like Queensryche.

I love me some Tool and Porcupine Tree... I guess that's mostly progressive rock... this progressive metal shit sounds way too 80's to me.

Do any of you guys like Rush?

Obviously an awesome drummer. He wrote an awesome book. His daughter and wife died and wrote this:

^^^^This. Opeth is great. You have to listen to pretty much all the songs on their albums as they do not really have just one sounds. I saw them live last year with Katatonia who was also really good. Check em out.
