I believe that aliens exist - as in we aren't alone in the galaxy/universe/etc.
However, I don't think the government is hiding anything significant. I hold an secret security clearance because I use to do some consulting with the Australian department of defense. Although I didn't get a TS clearance, I know that most of the stuff that is TS the general public wouldn't really be that interested in. The hierarchy goes something like this:
restricted clearance: we are sending troops to iraq
secret clearance: we are sending 400 troops to iraq from units X, Y and Z
TS clearance: the reason we are sending 400 troops is because the americans don't have enough numbers to defend their airfields from an outright assault.
The reason this sort of info doesn't get out is because it's obvious that national (your or someone else's) security could be compromised and people could die. Most people wouldn't care that the Americans couldn't defend the airfield because there's nothing they could do with the information anyway.
IF there was proof aliens existed, I doubt that the people that know could keep their mouth shut for long enough for it to stay a secret. If you had a secret that powerful, and telling it wouldn't get people killed, I know I would at the very least tell my wife and/or best friends, security cleared or not.

It's pure ignorance to think in this endless universe that we are the only living beings, intelligent or otherwise, nuff saud.
I think aliens are real. I wrote an article a few months back on some reasons I think aliens exist: Top Ten (10) Reasons Aliens Exist | Truth Control
Not only do I believe life exists elsewhere, I'm pretty convinced that space is something like the Atlantic ocean. There's probably just tons and tons of different forms of intelligent and less-than intelligent life.
The probability that life exists elsewhere is overwhelming.
Humans have been on earth around 100,000 years.
Earth is about 4 billion years old.
The universe is about 15 billion years old.
Earth is a little late to the game if you think about it. Other species in a galaxy far away could be flying around while we we're still trying to figure out how to make a fire or invent the wheel.
I'm pretty sure not only does intelligent life exist elsewhere, but they've also been advancing for hundreds of thousands of years longer than we have, probably millions.
Look at what we've done in the past 1,000 years. What would a million years of technology do for us? Traveling at the speed of light would probably be a cake walk.
Unfortunately for us we're most likely the retards of the universe as it stands now. We've only been technologically advanced for the last few hundred years.
They visit us and fly around sure. Hundreds of sightings from airforce pilots to southern redneck farmers. Some people say, "well if thats the case why don't they land for a visit and try to make contact with us?" or "How come we haven't seen any then!?"
Imagine driving through the worst ghetto in Compton. Do you ever have the bright idea of stepping outside the car for a meet and greet? hell no.
Compared to them we're still probably really violent. We're just not "there" yet.
Someday.
I think the idea of aliens visiting our planet is pretty ridiculous. I'm not sure but I believe the closest solar system to ours is about 10 light years away, so even if alien spaceships could travel at the speed of light (which scientists believe to be impossible) it would still take them 10 years to even get here in the first place, assuming they inhabit the closest solar system. That's a pretty long time to travel just to observe some stupid humans.

So you think aliens take thousands of years out of there lives to travel to us and then don't even make themselves apparent? They just float around the planet doing fuck all? It's ridiculous. Assuming aliens have a similar lifespan to ours they would have to colonize a space craft and keep breeding and breeding whilst traveling to us, only to hover around the planet and abduct random rednecks. I can't see why super advanced aliens would be interested in doing this at all.
Humans have been around for 100 000... for all we know our lifespan will only be 200,000 years... Species come and go, and in 15 billion years...thats a whole lot of time to miss other life.

Well said dude.
That's something you and I will probably never know, but for whatever reason they are here.
And I doubt they just travel in their little spaceship for that many years.
Cloaked mother ships FTW, lol.
I dont think the problem here is that they don't want to visit us... but like you said universe is 15 billion years old...so i think its more a matter of timing. Is there anyone out there at this moment? That is more advanced than us? THat hasnt swung by our planet 1000 years ago and marked us as insignificant...
Humans have been around for 100 000... for all we know our lifespan will only be 200,000 years... Species come and go, and in 15 billion years...thats a whole lot of time to miss other life.
But then wouldnt it be cool if the universe is one big giant game of starcraft. Each player/life starting in 1 quadrant at the same time...winner gets to leave the universe... woh.:stonedsmilie:
Anyways, in all likelihood, I'd say any advanced alien race that is in any way like Humanity as a whole isn't likely to be in touch with us for anything other than as conquest. Honestly stop and think about it. We've got a world filled with resources of the type that they need, and we're pitifully defenceless against them.
