WTF?

As far as I know, it was built on open source..

Even on their site Prosper202 Self Hosted Apps

They still have the text (footer)

Creative Commons License This work (Prosper202, Tracking202 and Export202) is licensed under a
Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.

All the download links lead to pay options, though.

As the license is CC.. should we just share it high and wide? :thefinger:

From Nana.
Here's the link for 1.7.2 this is still free and will remain free. I'll put a more visible link on the site soon.

Prosper202 ClickServer 1.8.0 is now available as a separate purchase as a stand alone product at:
Prosper202 ClickServer Plans & Pricing Details

The current price is introductory pricing that will be valid for the next 1-3 weeks. I still need to figure out how long I want to keep it current.

I'm working on a FAQ blog post, but here area a few quick points based on questions here and what I've been getting by email

* Prosper202 1.7.2 will always remain free, it's not being updated

* The newest versions of Prosper202 will always be paid from now on.

* Your monthly subscription covers unlimited upgrades, and support direct from me and my head developer. Version 1.8.0 now comes with a wordpress style upgrade feature so you can upgrade with a click of a button. No FTP needed.

* Because of this ^, we are going to be able to rapidly push out features and fixes knowing that it's very easy for you to keep your installation up-to-date. Think of it as a SaaS app that runs on your servers.

* This is not set in stone yet, but 1.8.0 will eventually be free 6 months to a year from now. By that time we should be at Prosper202 ClickServer version 2.5.0 or 2.6.0. One big reason for me changing my mind on this would be if I notice a huge number of people hacking 1.8.0 so they don't have to pay.

* Version 2.0 will be completely rewritten from the ground up. So apart from minor feature updates, we are not going to invest a lot of resources into major code updates in the 1.x.x codebase. 2.0.0 is under parallel development now as we work on 1.8.x

* Don't download Prosper202 from Torrent sites or any other site since there's no guarantee that a backdoor hasn't been slipped in.

* The source in 1.8.0 is unencrypted, but it's not open source software anymore.

* If you can afford it, and I've made it low priced as to not lock anyone out. Please pay for it. I'm trusting that you support the continued development of the software. Developers are not cheap, and it's kind of hard to pay for them when the software is free

* The speed at which Prosper202 ClickServer improves will depend fully on the willingness of the 100,000+ free user base to upgrade to the paid version. There're a lot new features on my roadmap that will come out sooner with.

* You can read more about what's new in 1.8.0 here Download The New Prosper202 ClickServer 1.8 Today

Plus the free version no longer tracks country's....

Nobody wants another never ending monthly bill so why should someone choose to pay for 202 over CPVLab which ROCKS and is much cheaper then your cheapest plain ?

Minimum price avg $700 a year reasonable price, yes!

But then again its for something that was free and every month...

My biggest question is does it track mobile devices, handset etc...?

Then again there is free trackers that do that ...

I am not down with now having to pay another monthly service for anything....

I agree, t202 was all about bringing a free and open source to affiliates,. Nana really made some changes. t202(clickserver) min $300/m.

ill be staying with bevomedia and imobitrax

What shit, while $40 a month isn't a huge deal. The simple fact that they are trying to screw people over and make a quick buck, by moving opensourced software to a paid product, all out of simple greed is enough to NOT buy that shit.

Hmm.. Support? Unless you are a complete moron and need your hand held paying $40 a month for email support is nuts.

I really hope this entire plan backfires on these fools.

plenty of open source programs out there that are paid.

for $40 a month I will pay for a system that has NEVER failed me and has remained UP for over 5 years consecutively.

this same system was the corner stone for what ultimately allowed me to quit my job (with wife and kids) that allowed me to track all of my campaigns.

I wish them all the luck in the world and I see no issue with paying for a superior product, as long as they get rid of the ads.

lol wut? I was actually considering using them last month and eventually just pulled the trigger on CPVLab. This just made me a whole lot more content with that decision.

Err... thing is they moved it to closed source.

Open source normally is supposed to stay open source (and it is a viral license, so if there is an open source component in your software, your software has to become open soruce, too)

YOu can charge for a SERVICE (like server setup, maintenance, support,...) around the open source software, but you'll still have to keep the base open source.

This is nothing but a dick move.. and it might be an illegal one... although one would have to go through their code to find if they are using other open source software components in it)

Funnily enough, nothing but a full rewrite will allow them to move to closed... so they might have fucked themselves with version 1.8 ... as 1.7 is open source.

ITT affiliates who collectively made millions off prosper complaining about a product that should have been paid now charging for it.

What incentive do they even have to update the shit?

Creative Commons — Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 United States — CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US

"You may not use the material for commercial purposes."

What was the original license? CC or GPL?
Edit 1:
1.2.1 had this license: Creative Commons Legal Code
1.0.2 is encoded by Zend - can't read a thing there.
Edit 2:
1.2.1 uses Snoopy, which is released under LGPL.

all very good points. so 1.7 was in fact creative commons?

I did not know @emp that they locked down the source, yea kind of a dick move.

They should have at least made it freemium from the start. Setup a campaign, send 100 uniques, sign up for $25/month to continue.

Not only that, but 99% of internet marketers are broke and that's their core audience. They should have just made 1-2million over the past 4-5 years and moved onto better things.

Well....

If I can't download the source, then I can't access the source.

Open Source is not "you get the source if you pay"

@junta

The way you make moeny with open source is that you offer services, like the server they offer, install help, maintenance, etc..

Why it has to be free? Because they are using code that was provided free in their software.
That is how the virality in Open Source Software works. You use a significant component that is OSS, your software becomes OSS.

Sadly, one would have to find which components are used and then get the owners of those components to go to court.
