Hey All,

I was looking at DP (yeah, I know) and I saw a whole bunch of proxy sites for sale. Call me a noob if you want. But I am not sure how these sites make any money at all. Is it people using scripts to force clicks on their ads or what?

Could someone break it down for me?

Thanks

Typical proxy monetisation is AdSense on the outside, AdBrite on the inside. No scripts/forcing necessary.

How to you mean about inside and out?

I guess I see that they have ads all over the site when you first get there. But once you use the proxy, there are none. Can you use adbrite on the "inside" like you mention? If so what would be the method?

I ran a proxy network for a few months. Basically they get about a 5% CTR with adsense on the front page, so if you are doing a few thousand impressions a day with well targeted ads it turns into a nice chunk of change. Then you run pop ups on the proxified pages since adsense isn't allowed there.

Its not as oversaturated as people think. Proxies get blocked, and people suck at running servers so there is always someone looking for a new one. You have to be very careful about how you get your traffic (china will rape you in the ass and leave you for dead).

My first try I made $50 profit my first month, but I was constantly dealing with server downtime and shit, wasn't worth it for me.

Do a reverse IP to location look up and just block all non-US or unwanted traffic.

Yup adsense on the front page, adbrite on the proxified pages. Paypopup.com on both.

Buy about 100 .info's, submit one to goodwaiter, all to proxy.org and get about 10 people on DP to stumble em all. Easily get up to $30 a day and then sell for a couple months rev.

Oh, and I host @ alloy hosting.

Yaxx pretty well answered the question -- by "outside" and "inside" I was referring to the proxified and non-proxified pages.

I've also been experimenting with other forms of promotion on the prxofied pages, as I first mentioned url=http://www.wickedfire.com/affiliate-marketing/20222-question-proxy-owners.html]here[/url] but not been long enough to give any sort of meaningful feedback.

Block a country - .htaccess method eats lots of memory. GeoIP free database with mod_geoip is the best I have found to block non converting traffic from China & Iran [No offence there for good people]
It's hard to keep proxies with other sites so hosting them on a separate VPSor dedicated server is a must. That way you fine tune apache & php for proxies.

I have started venturing into the proxy waters as well, thanks for all the good info.
Does anyone have a list of IP's of filter company bots? I would like to cloak my proxies from them :)
