Hi there,

I'm starting to check a websites domain authority before considering getting a link from there. My doubt is in the figure. From what number you would consider a website to have a good DA?

Just asking for thoughts.

It depends on your needs. If you need a link for super white site, i'd say 50+. If for a pumper / tier1, then 20+. Basically in my consideration all that is below 15 is trash.

But of course you need to manually investigate their backlinks too, the damn site may have DA 60 which is all faked.

I always look for cloaking or too few temporary cc ips, but short of that how could you fake a metric like that?

It wouldn't be faked, it would just be meaningless. A site with pure unadulterated spam coming from 1000 different root domains would have a killer DA.
Pretty much this ^^ , i used not very exact word. Sorry for my English :action-smiley-027:

Here is a thought... might be foreign to SEOers, how about you get links for REFERRING TRAFFIC instead of all this Metric stuff? You guys have the opportunity to get links from website with traffic, why are you only focusing on the SEO benefits which come down the road versus going after immediate benefits of referring targeted traffic?

I'd counter that by caring about things like age, yahoo, dmoz listings.

Now... before everyone jumps on my shit... yahoo and dmoz listings are both an age and quality metric at the same time... at least if something has sufficient age.

If I were running an algo, I'd throw a few points at those, and I'd throw a few points at their outgoing links.

*ducks*

This right here.

Small example; I have a site with one link that I dropped in a comment on an NY Times finance article that's extremely related to my niche. I get anywhere from 8-10 visitors per day from that one lonely little link. Multiply that over 10 or 20 different sites, and you're getting some traffic that can do some damage. I'll take the direct traffic from the link over the minute seo value any day of the week and twice on Sunday's.

A genuine High DA website will have also have low Alexa Rank. I do lots of guest posting and I see people usually looking for website having 30+ DA. So assuming that DA 30+ website is good.

Just to illustrate this, here are the top results from my today checking...
