I'm looking to build a small server for a few customers (small businesses) and would like some information on PC cases. I know all you gamers have knowledge of what's out there.

I'm basically looking for a PC case that looks more like an appliance or server and less like a home computer. The ability to paint it or customize it somehow would be an added bonus. Are there any custom-spec private label case manufacturers out there that can make something to spec where I can brand it with my own brand?

Are you looking to put your label on the case? Get a good quality sticker made up. If you are looking for more of a 1u type case that can could be difficult for branding purposes.

With my offline janitorial company, we looked heavily into pricing for private label and it was cheaper just to get my own labels and throw it on the bottles.

what form factor? micro atx, extended atx, mini atx what?

That's a very good question. The smaller the better (makes for a sleeker, more advanced "appliance" look) but I must make considerations for price and interoperability of the components used.

This is not going to run anything a small office file or web server would need to run so it could almost be done with XP using XAMPP/IIS/JBOSS/Etc on standard PC components.

That's probably the way I'll go due to the low volume. A case that could be painted and/or have a smooth enough surface for a high-end label/decal would work.

Cases like these are about as small as they come, and some of them are also designed to run in cars, so they are usually good at operating with minimal power and are easier to keep cool.
mini itx enclosure - Google Product Search

One of these might do nicely.
