Just five minutes ago, she was saying her goodbyes. She had finally given up and let cancer take her. Five minutes ago, Jake was begging her to hold on, to not leave him, but it was too late. Her mother’s life hadn’t been easy, especially ever since her husband, Jake’s father, died. He left her with a three year-old baby to take care of in the middle of the harsh environment of Compton. She took odd jobs until she could scrape enough money to get out of there and live a better life elsewhere.
While lost deep in thought about all this, Jake’s tears finally stopped falling. He finally managed a smile. He knew his mother was in a good place. It was time to let her go.
