WickedFire Forumers,

Seeing there are quite a number of people are discussing Movies here. Would like to ask if you guys check movie rating websites before going for a movie?

I personally do that quite often. Have been using imdb.com, the rating there are always quite accurate. Any movies that is rated 7.5 & above are quite Watchable (worth to watch). (of course, you must look at the Number of Voters also, it should be at least with 5000++ for old movies & 1000++ for new movie to get a more accurate idea)

It is just a general guide. Of course, movie rating is very subjective. To some, a good movie is just a bad movie...

From imdb.com, sometimes can really find out some Movie Gem that are hidden (commercially not so much being advertised)

I never check. I just watch a trailer and get an idea of whether I'll like it or not.

Doesn't always work though. I got dragged to see Sherlock Holmes the other day (it just came out in Japan) and the trailer looked lame but I actually thought it was pretty good. None of the good stuff was in the trailers, just the formulaic shit.

I don't even go to the movies anymore. The last ten movies I've seen in theaters were fucking horrible. I guess that's why you check RT.

The last half-way decent movie I saw was Hurt Locker. Other than that, I can't remember a movie that I truly enjoyed. Everything is complete shit these days.

I google the title and usually check RT/imdb & wikipedia (to read the plot) before actually watching any movie.

I use imdb regularly. The trick is to get through the first page of reviews - the bad reviews always seem to lurk on the second or third pages and give you a pretty decent idea of what the film is about (people are kind enough to note spoilers if that bothers you). Its not let me down so far. I've had so many films where the bad reviews have actually persuaded me to watch it and I've not been disappointed yet :p
Although this tactic is mostly used for older films and particularly B movies. I don't really do the cinema thing.
