Questions About A Domain Transfer

The domain I'm about to buy was registered in '97. Here are my questions about this:

When I move the domain to another registrar (NameCheap), will it stay that way ('97) or will it be reset?

Does it have any negative effect on SEO when I move it to NameCheap and another host?

And since I will be buying the domain directly from they guy... What is a good way to pay him for his domain and minimize the change of him running away with my money and keeping the domain?
 


I'm not that concerned about current SEO rankings because it has none, the site has been offline for a while... But I know aged domains have a big advantage in the SERPs, so I wonder if I lose any of that when I change the domain and hosting account.

The initial creation date will stay the same.

No, makes no difference at all.

If you pay via credit card through your PayPal account, wouldn't that allow you to do a charge back with your bank should the seller not transfer the domain to you?
 
Use escrow.com to transfer the domain. They have a special escrow service just for that. It protects both of you should the deal go bad.
