I have been working a cushy corporate job, managing the search marketing program at a fortune 50 retailer until today. I put in my notice and I have to say it feels good. It always bothered me making someone else money, when I knew I could be making more on my own.

I had always viewed AM as a way to supplement my income and never really considered doing it full time until recently. And honestly, those stupid pictures people post of their big AM checks really do server a purpose, they remind people like me that you can make big money in AM.

Hopefully I can contribute on here more often, as much of what I have gotten from WF, besides being dickrolled, really pushed me toward quitting.

Very very cool, but you did fail to tell us what your cool new company name is... Just sayin! :D

Congratulations man

Congrats man. Its a liberating feeling. I quit my cushy high salary job in January of this year. I worked there for almost 3 years and had good pay but I just felt like an employee drone that was wasting my life and potential. I will always work for myself from that point on. It may not always be in AM but one business or another.

Good luck

very nice. how long did it take you to do that? how much are you earning to support yourself?

If I was smart I would have waited a little longer before I left. I have not quite matched what I was making at work, mostly due to not having the time, but I am close.

I am also going to do sem consulting for a bit to ease that transition too. It took me 3-4 months to be doing relatively decent with offers. I am just lucky that I didn't have the general search learning curve like many starting out in AM.

My personal goal is to get to that point by next April.

i consider quiting my desk job the best decision i ever made (tough to toss the safety net). if you have the spirit of a pirate you are going to be in heaven.

congrats!
i'm planning to do the same next year so it's always good seeing somebody succeeding
