Rainier Cherries

Does anyone here wait all year for rainier cherry season (July/August)? I'm addicted to these things and buy tons of them each Summer. I was just at wal-mart and they got their first shipment in... They're normally $5-7/pound but they are marked at the regular cherry price right now of $3/pound. WIN.

I like to take them in handfuls and stuff them into my pockets. I then sit in the car and bash my pockets until they are in a pulp-like state. I walk around all day like that, it's a once-a-year type of thing.

Also, I stand corrected. I poked around a little bit and Ranier cherries seem to be the Filet Mignon of cherries now. What a fucked up world.

This year was a record harvest for cherries (almost doubled from last year) so the prices will be much cheaper now. We just bought some at Fred Meyer and the Rainiers were only $1.49 lb.

My family still owns an orchard and some of the farmers in the area are not even bothering with the smaller cherries this season.
