All of these AM raps out there and no one used Wu Tang's C.R.E.A.M.? I can't believe it. Try that one. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDfToFcJ2J4]YouTube - Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.[/ame]

Tribe Called Quest, Beatnuts, Nature, Big L, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Rakim (without Eric B.), EPMD, Gang Starr, Blackaliscious, Black Star, De La Soul, Goodie Mob, Wu, Outkast, Del The Funky Homosapien, Redman...

The list goes on... but most of my favorites are from before 2000.

Nice taste, I had no idea.

Del is the best.

Also check out:
Aesop Rock
Immortal Technique
Girl Talk (remixes/mashups)

I know there is some more shit I have to recommend, drawing some blanks though.

Agreed, this was the golden age. Don't forget KRS, The Roots, Beastie Boys, early Nas, Pharcyde

Jesus you guys...he's a rap newbie. Don't hit him with the conscious rappers just so you can prove that you're not lame.

Spencer, here are some albums to get you going.

The Roots - Game Theory
Lil Wayne - Da Drought III Mixtape
Nas - Untitled *most recent*
Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Jay Z - American Gangster
Jay Z - The Black Album
Black Star - Black Star *Mos Def & Talib Kweli*
Jadakiss - Kiss of Death
Royce da 59 - M.I.C
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool

Whatever you do, avoid anything from the South ( or da Souf).

...Unless you want to hear brain dead retards mumble about candy paint and postin' up in between obnoxious, repetetive chorus's.

Jay-Z - Blueprint
Nas - Stillmatic
Outkast - Aquemini

The horns(chorus) on SpottieOttieDopaliscious (By Outkast) are one of my favorite parts of any song in existence. I really oughta check out if those are sampled or original.

Don't like Royce 5'9" much although BOOM is a sick beat.

He's also a brain dead retard who mumbles. But he does have some fun stuff to listen to.

looptroop and dizzie rascal. they are kind of weird, but i like them

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3HMogp86cI]YouTube - Dizzee Rascal - Stand up tall (Best Quality)[/ame]

some southern stuff though:
Young Jeezy - The Recession
T.I. - Paper Trail, T.I. vs T.I.P., etc.
Lil Boosie - Bad Azz Vol. 2 Mixtape ... annoying voice but he's not bad
Outkast - ATLiens ... really anything from andre 3000 and big boi
UGK - they got a bunch of good stuff
Young Buck - Buck The World
Webbie - Savage Life

Soulja Boy - souljaboytellem.com ... just kidding about that one

if your not going to give him conscious rappers to prevent confusion then the last thing that you want to give him is dizzie rascal. you have to be trained hip hop listener to follow garage rap in general

Busta - Extinction Level Event
Beanie Sigel - The B. Coming
Rah Diggah - Dirty Harriet
Common - Like Water for Chocolate
Jay Z - Hard Knock Life Vol. 2
Cash Kola - Life in General
DA T.R.U.T.H. - The Faith

True lyricists:

Aesop Rock
Cage Kennylz (all his shit, but checkout "Shoot Frank" ft. Daryl Palumbo)
El-P
Yak Ballz
Deltron 3030
Sage Francis
Lupe Fiasco (Yes, Lupe Fiasco)
Immortal Technique
Jedi Mind Tricks

Jedi Mind Tricks and Outerspace.

Forget the rest of the BULLSHIT that's been mentioned on this thread.
