Raping MediaTemple "GPU" Quota

So I am destroying the $20 / month hosting plan on MediaTemple. They have a 1000 GPU per month measurement and I am going closer to 3000 (ironically I am not getting close to exceeding the storage or bandwidth quotas)

Thing is they are about as helpful as throwing a drowning man both ends of a rope. They say that even upgrading, I will still exceed this retarded GPU usage measurement.

What do you guys do when you get to that stage?

Dedicated? VPS?

I am fucking clueless here.

If I change hosting, where do you recommend? I need somewhere that can handle big bursts of traffic on a buddypress installation.

From their site:

-1000 GPU's is equivalent to running a continuous 10% load on one processor for the month.
-You can use up to 1.38 GPU's per hour and not go over the 1000 GPU limit
-1 GPU = 7.24% of 1 CPU for 1 hour

So you're basically putting a 30% load on a single processor for a full month? That's not much... Just get a cheap dedicated and be done with crap like that. Wholesaleinternet.com has some deals in the $60 range that would be more than enough.

Edit: A vps would work, but I'm guessing you get huge bursts of traffic all at once, which could be an issue. So I'd suggest a cheap dedicated where you won't have to worry about pissing anyone off.

How much is a big burst of traffic?

I'd recommend a softlayer public cloud solution for $99/mo if you are truely getting big bursts of traffic. One of my friends has a site that handled a million uniques per day on their $99/mo package.
