Reccomend a VPS with Root Access?

Update: Are you talking about web apps or running windows? If talking about running window programs, then I would go with Kickassvps.

I don't see how a VPS is going to touch a dedi from hetzner/similar services in power or price? None of these activities seem very bandwidth intensive.

Be aware that hetzner is extreme-low-budget hosting company.
Their hardware is awesome for the price you pay.

BUT, as soon as something breaks down you're fucked big time cause their support is the worst you will ever see. Stupid, incompetent, rude.

I hosted 3 servers with them in the past. Cancelled them all cause I was fed up with the horrible support. Downtime costed me 10x more in one day than the savings I had in entire month of hosting.

Don't expect to have any additional ip's either. They don't give those out even though their site says they do. I had to FIGHT with them to get the second ip to one of the servers.
They just wouldn't budge.

Look up Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet for more offers. As well as past reviews for companies.
Plenty to choose from but stay away from hetzner if you want to save yourself the headache.

I am using bulletproofvps, you can do everything you need, the host will never be down from complaints

Dotblock has a one month trial for $1 on their 1 Block VPS. I use their microblocks for development work. Basically the same deal as DigitalOcean and Linode, both of which are also pretty good.

OVH has extremely cheap VPS's available and they all come with EXCELLENT DDoS protection. I used them and their DDoS protection was better than black lotus (~$575/mo) and it only cost around ~$20/year.. One downside is they don't have any US servers, otherwise I would have already purchased their shared hosting as it is very cheap and has the same excellent DDoS protection (its at the network level)

Digitalocean has got new nodes in Amsterdam and Singapore! Furthermore they give you 10 bucks credit if you deposited at least $5 USD. :)
