Reciprocal linking strategy?

The number 1 SERP ranked competitor amongst 6,000,000 has approximately 7,000 backlinks.

I checked with Majestic SEO to figure out where all his backlinks were coming from. And approximately 3/5 of them are from sites that offer reciprocal linking.

How do you guys deal with 2-way linking? I asked several webmasters if they're ok with having their links on my other non-money site. Three of them declined. It's confusing me since I can't find their links on my competitor's site.
 


If I add a 2-way link on my subpage, is it feasible to do a 301 redirect elsewhere for that specific page? If I unknowingly link to a link farm, would this keep me immune from any potential penalties?
 
A reciprocal link consists of both an inbound link (aka backlink) and outbound link. Or am I wrong?
 
Dude, reciprocal links suck unless it's from a real nice authoritative domain that's related to your niche. The search engines caught on to this shit a long time ago. So if you've got a links page with 1,000 shitty outbound links you're screwed.

Your best bet is to do social bookmarking, profiles, web 2.0 linking, blog commenting and article writing. Over time, this shit builds up. A few good quality links are better than thousands of shitty ass links. If you really want to get thousands of shitty backlinks you could get another domain on a different ip and buy an Xrumer blast for it and pass the juice to your main money site. Who gives a shit if the other site gets the ban hammer. You dig?
 
The search engine spiders have to be able to find the reciprocal links on your site before they're reciprocal, otherwise they're one-way links from the other sites.
 
i understand reciprocal links are shit.

but essentially i was going to just slog through most of the 7,000 backlinks my competitor has (he's ranked #1 on 10 profitable keywords in my niche), and then do massive linking with social bookmarking, article directories, blogs commenting, etc.

i just want to at the very least match his backlinks 1:1 (which mostly includes reciprocal links).

but i like your suggestion allbizniz. i'll just use a shit domain on a diff C block ip and run xrumer. i dig.

this is very good advice indeed. Build Backlinks Slowly in the first couple of months or Google with punish you for it. Quality is always better than Quantity when it comes to backlinking and you want to aim for something that would look NATURAL to Google

Eh. maybe. but say you post a link on a news or bookmarking site. then suddenly, over a period of 2 days, 1,500 sites link to that particular news/bookmarking page (and 20% of those 1,500 link to your money site or 'planet' site), i can see how this could be natural.

i don't really think speed of linkbuilding necessarily correlates with 'unnatural'.

as long as there's diversity in several key areas (e.g., anchor text, link distribution, etc), then it could all look natural.

It doesn't take long in the internet world to reach a tipping point where you'll get a massive amount of backlinks, and i guarantee search engines realize that.
