TACOS $1.00!

Fuck United Healthcare. I pay $102 a month for health insurance (no dental or vision) and it's worth a bag of shit.

For most of my life I've been healthy and never had insurance, didn't think I needed it. And then a few months ago someone talked me into getting it, you know, just in case.

Well this month I've had some crazy health problems and have been to 3 different doctors and one E.R. visit.

My medical costs this month so far: $4,500 (give or take a few hundred)

How much United Healthcare covered: $70

Apparently I'm only covered for two trips to the doctor a year (which I pay $35 for) and pretty much nothing else. My deductible is $1,000, which I'm well over now, but apparently the terms state that I'm basically only covered for surgeries, etc... Not doctor's visits, which is what I mainly need now (for the next six months or so).

Anyway, gotta love the health care system we have here. Can someone recommend a company that actually covers shit for around $100/month? If not I'm just gonna drop everything and pay cash again, like I always have.

I'd really just like to have all of my doctor visits paid for (about one a week). If I file it with my insurance company right now, I end up paying $152 for each visit. However, if I don't file it with the insurance company and pay the doctor directly, I pay $83 because I fall under a special "self-pay" program they have. How fucked is that?

I feel your pain on that one. My employer supplied insurance premiums are going up 17% this year for basically the same shitty coverage it sounds like you have. If you manage to find anything decent let us know.

Depending on what's going on with your health, you're going to have trouble switching to a new carrier. Individual policies are totally different from group policies. My niece (two years old) is "uninsurable" due to some frivolous, non-life-threatening something-or-another from which she's totally recovered. The only way my brother could get her covered was with some sort of state program.

That aside, have you looked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield? Some states are better than others.

I did get a quote from Anthem Blue Cross and it was about $100 a month and my doctor visits would cost me $25. However, the deductible is $23,000 a year, which is just retarded.

But you're right, I'm not even sure if I'd be accepted anywhere else. I've basically got this thing where my throat muscles go into a spasm and if it happens when I'm eating food gets stuck in my throat and I can't swallow/breathe. I saw an ENT and had an endoscopy done and he seems to think it could be caused by GERD, but isn't sure. Anyway, I'm supposed to see him every week for a least the next 8 weeks.

USA! USA! USA!

Any premium healthcare that doesn't cost about 400$ a month is going to be shit. GERD is some nasty shit, you seeing someone at Cox or St Johns? I know someone who works at United Healthcare and does claims if you want me to ask her some questions about their coverage. If you want some health care Jack Henry is always hiring =)

i think someone could clean up specializing in affiliate needs.

  1. Healthcare
We don't have employers, so most of us are prolly uninsured
  2. Accountant / CPA
We make tons of cash and are willing to pay an accountant nicely if they can help us keep it.
  3. Green Tea
We all sit in front of the computer all day and are going to get fat. Green tea clears out your toxins, provides an energy boost and suppresses your appetite! The best part is you can get a trial supply for free

Thanks, but Anthem might actually have a good deal for me. They called me back and said I'd probably be accepted and they could drop the deductible to $5,000/year. I'd still pay $25 per visit, but the coverage would only be $60/month. I'll know on Monday for sure, but if they can follow through with a plan like that, I'm signing up.

I'm seeing someone over at the Ferrell Duncan Clinic (so Cox)... So far everyone there seems to know their shit.

Jack Henry, lol, I'm sure they have some good coverage, but I'd kill myself long before an illness would if I had to work for someone else.

Get a better plan.. "United" is too generic, they have several different plan options with different deductibles and coverage. Sounds like you have a low deductible low coverage deal..

Anthem is blue cross of california, so you should be accepted by them. The blues get state funding so that don't turn anyone away for any prexisting conditions. On the other hand it can get pretty expensive...

Just remember, you get what you pay for. $100 a month insurance isnt going to get you much.

Just a general rule of thumb, if it costs more to insure your car than your health, something is wrong.

Damn! that sucks, sorry about the joke in my earlier post.

On a side note I am also uninsured. Hate going to the doc. Seams like its 1k-5k every time I go. I have to have some dental surgery here in a couple weeks thats going to cost me almost 15k (skin graph).

I like High deductible plans because I believe in the more traditional idea of insurance- in other words the opposite of what most people are accustomed to from their employer paid comprehensive everything-including-your-oil-changes-are-covered.

I am no help on the pre-existing part. I didnt go to the doctor for years in part so I wouldn't have any. But I am happy with Anthem. I have a family plan that includes $7 million lifetime coverage, $1000/2000 deductible, $6000 max out of pocket, $15 rX. I have 20% coinsurance after deductible. So I pay out of pocket for routine visits. But the point of insurance is to insurance against emergencies/serious illness/catastrophy/financial devestation. If something bad happens and I have a $100,000 bill for something and have to pay $6000-8000 for it= Sweet! 6 Grand could never bankrupt me, but 6 figures would. My dental plan provides $1000 a year in coverage witha $50 a year deductible. 6 month wait on major services. Everything else covered right away. I pay a little over $200 a month. If I were single I would only have to pay around $40, but I have kids.

I went years without considering insurance, but thought I would at least insure against something catastrophic. IMHO that's what insurance is for. Better off expecting to pay out of pocket something for routine visits knowing you are protected against more serious cash outlays. That sucks they didnt cover anything.n I have not had that issue with Anthem. Of course they have many plans ( the one I picked doesnt offer a copay except after dedcuctible but you can pay more and get $25 copay, for example).

i have a plan with Blue Shield CA. I pay $45 for a doctors visit. my deductible is $2K but most things are covered in the $45 per visit fee. the prescription deductible is either $500 or $1,000 (i forget and it was raised a lot recently). my premium is now around $300 a month, but depending on your age could be under $200 a month. i'm relatively happy with them...
