bah...so somehow outlook crashed and i can't open it up w/o repairing it. ofcourse my .pst file is over 2GB so i can't use the scanpst.exe file it keeps on telling me but can't believe it seems the only solution i have is to buy some online software to fix it.

anyone else had this problem before?

thanks!

2 gigs isn't a very good idea but I've seen some larger that 6. What error messages are you seeing?

BTW. Something I tell all of the users I support: Quit using email as a file storage system.

What message are you getting when you launch outlook?

Is your email also stored on a server somewhere (hopefully)?

The 2 GB limit was an old exchange issue, I had mailboxes much larger but it isn't a good idea in case you need to move / check for corruption. You can reduce the size by searching for emails with large attachments and dragging them into a local archive pretty easily.

haha..shit. i think i'm at 5G. bah.

can't start outlook...set of folders can't be opened. errors have been detected. quit outlook, use scanpst.exe to diagnose and repair errors.

so scanpst crashes since my file is huge. tried a microsoft tool that breaks it into 2GB but that didn't work either.

only thing i can find is software i have to buy to maybe fix it.

thanks!

What version of Outlook are you running. 2003 and newer support larger .pst files and can repair large ones.

Make sure you make a copy of your pst before trying any 3rd party repair tool on it.

plenty of space. 115GB still available...and 4g of ram...

that rar program is taking forever to run. hmm...

There's a SCANPST.exe file directly in outlook folder.

Make a copy of your pst file, run the scan/fix on the copy.

Add fixed pst to outlook.

Create new 'Office Outlook Personal Folders File(.pst)'

Copy all files from fixed pst to new PST file.

Done.
