Does everyone believe that networks that payout affiliate referrals is worthwhile? Of course all the publishers on this board will say yes because the make money off of them. However, I'm actually looking more for the opinion of any network representatives that post on this forum.

I'm not exactly going to answer, but, why wouldn't you believe that is the question?

We used to do referrals, but it didn't seem to be very worthwhile. All we ended up with was a bunch of fraud accounts. Granted, it's been 2 years since we offered it.

making some residual incomes thru affiliate referrals CAN do well.. if you find the RIGHT person as a referral..

I'm NOT talking about getting some "super affiliates" as your referral..

All you need to do is FIND the referral that will ACTUALLY market that SPECIFIC product.. probably he/she will market it as a SIDE product of what he/she is MAINLY selling right now..

yeah, i know, i'm not good with words.. but u can think the solution for urself with that *hint* i gave above. :D

I'll second that. The right referrals make all the difference. We have some affiliates who do really well with their referral income since they reffered top affiliates to our network.

From what I've seen the percentage ones are worthwhile, the fixed payment ones are too much hassle. I'll happily refer people to Copeac for 2% or AFF for 10% and any inbetween (any higher than 10%?), but can't really be bothered referring peeps to tradedoubler for £2 for example.

Get a few affiliates that really promote their offers and it can be a goldmine... it's those magic works.... residual income!

If you pay your affiliates a percentage of their referrals earnings then I wouldn't think there would be anymore or much more fraud accounts than what you would receive without having a referral program. If there are a few more then just employ another person. With having a referral program, just think how widespread it will be promoted accrossed the web. The amount of times I have seen copeac in peoples signatures on many forums. Now they wouldn't have that in their signature if they didn't pay a percentage of their referral earnings.

You're a marketer right? Is it just me or is this a silly question? Is it worth having a lot of sale people out there selling your network or service for a small percentage? Think of it like having a commission only sales team, sounds pretty unbeatable to me.

Here's the issues we ran into in the past. We had this ring of fraud publishers coming in referring each other and gaining all this commission on referrals. We do our best to curb fraud, but as many of the networks know, it's tough to completely stop it.

So as a result, we pulled our referral program. We realize that we may have lost some business over it, but we had to take measures to stop some of these fraud accounts.

Did pay a fixed amount or a percentage? If you paid a fixed amount I could see how it could be abused, but a percentage of commissions - well, they'd have to be making you money to get paid from referrals, how could that be defrauded?

We paid a percentage of revenue. We ended up not making much, because they were a ring of fraud publishers committing fraud on the offers.

The thing is if you have a referral program that pays a percentage, then you can get alot of exposure for your network. Just because you do not offer a referral program doesn't mean that you will no longer get fraud happening.

So a ring of fraud publishers were committing fraud on the offers, that will still happen with or without a percentage referral program. The only way you can stop this is by not having an affiliate network where publishers join, you will just have to directly promote the offers yourself.
