Aside from GeekCognito and myself I know of no other vets here. However, memorial day isn't about those of us here, but rather those soldiers, marines, airman and navymen who have given it all.

This memorial day weekend as you are out drinking beer and grilling, please take a minute and remember those who have fought and died for our freedoms.

For those who have some money to spare I urge you to give to the USO , a non-partisan group which helps military personnel.

(please don't fuck up this thread by posting about pro/against Bush, the war, etc...)

Hats off to our service men and women, missing/dead/alive/imprisoned.

Didn't realise that's what this holiday was for you guys. It's just spring bank holiday for us. Commemoration here is in november - remembrance sunday - the anniversary of the end of the 1st world war.

I've got family in the forces and while I might not agree with everything they do, I certainly feel sadness at any loss of life. Respect to those that fought something worth fighting.

I'm thankful for all of the sacrifices our military personal have made for our country. Thanks to all of the vets here at WF, and the rest of the world.

You Brits have been some stand up people for a long time. Thank you guys for always standing with us in war and peace. I really look forward to visiting the UK soon.

This is my first post here, but this is as good a thread to start in as any...

My thanks to all the vets, currently with us, or who've passed on, who've served our country. And to the men and women currently serving.

My thoughts this weekend will particularly be with my grandfather, a P-51 Pilot Trainer (RIP), and my good buddy Dave, who is shipping out to Okinawa this weekend to scrape fuel tanks on air force jets.

Great thread, BeerHat. Even as a vet I get so wrapped up in other stuff I'm doing that I don't often take the time to take the time to properly remember.

Although I never got to Iraq, I have buddies and family there right now. Thankfully, I haven't lost anyone to that conflict yet but I've lost a couple to other (unrelated) skirmishes.

Whatever your political opinion, remember that many of those men and women over there are just boys and girls in terms of age. No matter what you may think of the war, the administration, the military, or the "cause," just remember that those guys do what they are ordered and aren't granted the privilege to ask "why?" They dig in deep and get the job done. And that always deserves our respect.

Have a happy Memorial Day weekend, guys.

I am probably the oldest on this forum and lurk because I do not have the skills to help in most cases. I am an Army vet fromthe Viet Nam era and appreciate that young folks are still respectful of our veterans and for what they were willing to scarifice. Cheers to all vets and prayers to the family memebers of the ones who gave their lives.

We celebrate our veterans on Remembrance Day, November 11th - in Canada, the May long weekend is Queen Victoria's birthday celebration.

I have a US Navy "pen pal" (for lack of a better word) who is stationed in Iraq until next April. It sure brings it home what they are doing when you actually know someone over there.

Canadian troops are in Afghanistan, and we think of them constantly - we've lost quite a few boys lately...

I'll certainly tip up a Canadian brew for all the boys, US, Canadian, British - thank God we have them, and hope they come home safe.

Right on!

My brother Dan is in the Army. Not in iraq yet, but one of my best friends cheryl is being deployed on my birthday, July 1st

No drinking and partying for me today
