Resources to identify vertical markets?

Hey everyone - I'm a developer that's interested in getting into affiliate marketing. I'm in the early brainstorming stage of what market I'd like to develop for and I'd like to do some research - namely leverage tools that can tell me $ earned / sale and % earned / sale in various niche markets. Can anyone point me in the direction of those resources?

Do such tools even exist? It's hard to distinguish something of value from the *noise* when it comes to Affiliate Marketing.

This is something one can easily accomplish by signing up at affiliate networks and using a tool commonly learned in elementary school called "reading".
